Anyone know how much [if any] interchangeability of mechanical parts there is between 504 and 505 models?

Are we talking 504 Pick up? IIRC they had leaf springs on the back, saloons and estates had coils. Estates had a live axle, as did lower spec saloons. The GL and TI had IRS. they all had a torque tube rather than an open propshaft. The pick up may have had 5-stud wheels, i can't remember, they certainly had 15" rims. I had a 1984 1.8 petrol pick up for spares for my 1979 GL saloon. I don't know if the petrol pick ups were all 1.8, I would think they would be low compression, mine certainly had a tiny single choke carb on it. Earlier pick ups had round headlights in a plastic surround and pick up front wings have holes for the side repeaters. I think the four cylinder engines were carried over from the 504 to the 505, not sure about gear boxes, I would think the four speed would be the same, but I don't know if you can fit a 5 speed box to a 504.

it depends on many factors

what are you trying to do?

for example a 505 turbo diesel motor will go in a 504 easily enough but the beefier transmission won't

the track was different and I don't think many steering / suspension parts are a direct swap

also it depends on the year as early 505 is different to late 505
