Is it shite?

That actually sounds exactly like the keys I left behind... Nice

The normal ford key - same as the ignition and front doors - does seem to work in the other doors though, but you can't remove it from the lock without locking the door again (if you get what I mean).

I'm just confusing myself now - I think I'll phone him tomorrow as he did say he didn't know what the keys were for anyway. I really don't want to load stuff in the van and then find I can't get in.

Ah,if your ignition key fits the back door lock and side loading door, then you've not got the same locks as ours, but maybe them keys are for the safe box,or other things BT may have had onboard. What yours has got, which despite different barrels to ours, are 'Slam Locks' - A google search will make more sense than my late night fuzzy descriptions ! You can have them removed though - scrapyard job to get standard ones

Our van has the ignition key to operate both front doors, ignition and fuel cap.The second key ( funny rounded flat one) unlocks our back and side loading door. Our van is a 1992,and yours is a few years younger,so maybe they tried cost saving on lost additional keys !!

Well, I have a damn good poking session planned for tomorrow anyway, so I shall see what I shall see!

As a bonus, today I got about 45 kilos of sand/gravel/cement lumps out from under the load liner / in the side door channel / the inner gutter things by the roof / every available orifice (and some that were not available). I like free sand.

You might need the sand to mix with some cement to reinforce the chassis :P

They are pretty good vans as a rule;keep the underside well wax oiled,or spray/brush the old sump oil underneath, and get it into the chassis box sections where possible to keep it living a bit longer. Also,on the inside view of the rear arches (inside the cargo area),pour oil inside to sit in the seams to prevent 'flared taped over' arches.Yes,it might drip a bit for a little bit,but saves needing a tetnus jab each time you wash the van !

I like our old faithfull so much,it gets wax polished, and bumper dressing.Nice to keep it looking nice, but the advantage of such a old van like ours is we dont get mistaken for travellers - they all ride about in new ones !

I have indeed got slam locks - now I know they are supposed to do that I needn't bother fixing them

I've always used old oil to stop rust - ever since I realised the only bit of chassis on a series land rover that doesn't rust is the bit the engine sprays. I have a squirty hose thing that runs off a compressor to get it everywhere. There's a little bit of welding I want to do first (on a transit? shock, horror etc.) but then it'll get a good dousing...

I'm now about a quarter of the way through washing it - with a scouring pad to get the crap off - then it's getting some nice wax-on-wax-off action.

Well.

Woo,

And indeed,

Hoo.

MOT.jpg

It only went and bleedin' passed dinnit?

Just need to get some rent and it'll be all like OMFG RWD MSF DRFTN GOD!!! or something...

Still, I'm chuffed - so that's £125 for the van, £47 for the MOT and £1 for some wipers. Oh, and £20 for diesel. I'm under £200 all in so far.

Deal of the day so says me.

How much is "lots of money" relative to the Eberspacher? It might be a nice idea for the Land Rover.... It might break down and would be good for washing my hands afterwards.

Re: Eberspacher...

Probably just under £200 would be nice

Seriously, I have no idea. I'm going to have a play with it and see what the condition is - it looks fine... Whether it works or not will influence the price, obviously.

You're right. £200 is "lots of money". I can see from here it's fucked. Can I offer you £2.78 and a bag of chips? I will even bring some ketchup! When you find out more about it's condition and perceived value, remember this exchange eh?

I see you like to haggle a bit too then...

You are currently No.2 in the queue, please continue to hold, your custom is important to us. Cavette asked first, so it's only fair.

Ebay is running third but I don't mind bumping it down the list.

Sodding hell PDG, that was a right old result you had there.

Have just this day purchased a Transit myself, and for that reason I'm out sorry.

You, sir, have done bloody well there.

82 mph seems to be terminal vmax on these, or about 100 mph for the Turbo Diesel weapons grade ones.

Really? My turbo diesel smiley ran out of revs at 87 in fifth. It was a 190 high-top though, so probably had a lower-geared diff than the smaller versions.

I like this shape of Transit - they're powerful and civilised enough to do long distances in without doing yourself any permanent injury, but they're still a proper van. They handle OK too, although the brakes can't quite keep up with B-road hooning.

76 flat out in mine. The LWB ones always seem to be looking for another gear too for some reason.

Ours is a 92' Transit 120 2.5D and laden up used to do 85 flat out;I guess it depends on the axle and gearbox ratio's - certain ones will do better than others

And, as Wuvvum says, the size of the hole it has to make in the air...
