V5C Question

This is a quick one, probably.

I know I'm "In Da Trade" and therefore ought really to know my shit, but we have an admin department who look after this kind of stuff, so;

Is there a way I can get my name onto the Rovers V5 without adding another keeper? I'm quite keen on keeping things as they are.

At the moment it's had one previous owner, Rover Cars Great Britain. Since then it's been only been owned by my Grandfather, who shares my surname and first initial.

Additionally, it's still being kept at the same address as is on the logbook already; it's going to live in my Grandparents garage. So in effect it's only one word on the V5 that needs to change; to my first name. I know there is the facility on the logbook to change the keepers details. Can I just do this?

Thoughts?

I don't have definitive information, but I definitely can't see it being doable. If it were me, I'd just do a change of address, grit my teeth and pretend the name thing was a clerical mishap if I ever had too, but it'd probably leave you open to all sorts of ill shit, specially if your insurance requires you to be the registered keeper and you had a bump...

Yeah, you're probably right.

At least the previous keeper will have the same surname as me, I can say one family owned for ten years...

I doubt it but-

The wifes car was registered in my name because I paid for it (despite me telling the dealer on numerous occasions that it was to be registered in her name, providing insurance paperwork in her name, writing her name on the invoices and so on)

I took the log book and a covering letter from the dealer saying they had been muppets and not able to follow simple instructions to the DooVLAy offices in Preston who changed the keeper from me to my wife without it adding to the number of keepers.

Its possible you could try that line with the DVLA - saying there is an error you had not previously spotted - but I wouldnt hold your breath.

There's nothing to stop you taking a nice colour photocopy of the thing before you send it off, so you can prove the family/previous owner thing should you ever want to. Not the same, obviously, but...

If your grandfather changes his name -to one very similar to yours, using one of those Deed Poll thingy's...

Thanks, chaps. It's probably not really worth all the effort.

If I was going to do anything I'd probably change the address first, then leave it a few months and then amend the first name.

But I probably won't.
