.I know of a chap who was offered C class in exchange for his then 2 year old 190 as the C class owner regretted parting with his 190,and wanted another one.

 

Just shows how bad the C class is really.

 

I've owned plenty of cars over the years, and I do tend to look after them properly. My 190E defied all efforts to actually keep the bloody thing running, and it had a full MB service history (up to date) when I bought it.

 

The 'less electronics makes a better car' theory is something I don't agree with. It just means you need to know something about car electronics as well as mechanical systems. I find that cars with electronics are, if anything, easier to keep running correctly.

190's do have electronics, they run KE-jetronic. This is K jetronic with mixture control via an ECU, if this isn't working properly (or more often) the relay behind the battery has failed, starting can be a little tricky....

Either I've been lucky, or others have been extraordinarily unlucky. My 190 and W202 C180s and C280s were A1, and not exactly new when I got them. The W203 sports hatch was shit, though, as it went on fire on the M2 Belfast bound. I was on BBC Radio Ulster news!

Even worse was the fact that we've only just stopped selling them. The CLC (same but different headlights, and "built" in South America) was the outofdatest car of evar.
