and look at this diplomatic beauty

Such a handsome car in black! That's a late one as well - does it have earlier SL wheels though?

Good luck with the sale, Pete.

Right. Last shot before eBay.

I'm just not using it anymore. It's a shame. I've not bonded with it really. I've still got the Jag, which does wafty AND fast, and the Subaru amuses me with engineering I understand.

It does get emulsification in the dipstick tube when used in town as a daily which clears after a long run, it doesn't seem to use much oil or water at all, about 1/2 litre of coolant in 700 miles. One steering rack gaiter has split, the exhaust has a few blows around joints here and there. The cooling fan switch is broken, so I've wired it on permanently for now because I do a lot of town driving in it and on hot days the gauge would go to about 3/4 in heavy traffic but cool straight down when moving. The drivers seat could do with new foam as it has sagged a bit, and it doesn't go forwards and backwards because I lost a little plastic bit off the runner. Nearside front window needs a new switch or motor. It'll need new brake pads soon, but the ones on it probably have 1500 miles left in 'em. Brakes bind a bit if the car isn't used for a week or two, but they free off completely in a mile or so.

£1100 if you actually hand me the cash before Wednesday. Located in Liverpool, I don't think it'd have any issues doing a couple of hundred miles in one go.

This car looks incredible. If I could part with the cash / afford to run the thing, I would in a flash. Hope it goes to a good home !

Bugger it, I've listed it on eBay, it'll be on there from just after midday, for one day only hopefully to get a quick sale.

I have some spare electric window switches, a brown steering wheel and rear light cluster lense for it.

Pete I still need a front valance.

Watcha gonna do with it?

I can only suggest that a 24 hour auction on this weekend was too short to be found by the 'right man for it'.

I saw this advert in an old magazine a few days ago, photographed in the Church Green pub's carpark in Lymm, Cheshire. Damn place is a restaurant now...

I used to drink in the Church Green when Al and Anita had it. Had some proper grins in there. Shame it was bought by some trust fund hippy and turned into a bistro. That was the best pub in Lymm.

As for the 604, that seems to have been about as long as most of them lasted. Before I bought mine I'd not seen a 604 that didn't belong to Phil since the late '80s.

Weird, that... :?

504s seemed to go on for ever, yet the average 604 - essentially the same car, writ slightly larger - dies on its arse short of its 10th anniversary.

Posted

the engines aren't as tough as 504 ones and they use a lot more fuel which made them less desirable to people that just want a car

I'm a bit surprised that more of the turbo diesels didn't survive though.

Not in years, but at 38'000 miles a year it would have done 250'000 miles. Company car, written off against tax, worn out and on the scales.

I mentioned before that I worked a Peugeot dealer in the late seventies and early eighties, so did a fair bit of work on 604s they were more reliable than 504s, which used to have a lot of headgasket problems. The problem with 604s was the cost of replacement parts, can remember a rear light lens was £40 then.
