Stored for a few years, original and lovely - only 36,000 miles. The brakes need sorting but she started on the button with a drop of fresh unleaded. Auto gearbox so twin carburettors, a little rust but do-able. Good panels and interior, £250 but the car must be collected by this coming Tuesday at the latest. Well worth it even if you don't like brown Saabs. Utter timewarp. See other ad here for contct number. http://www.saabcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=210648 Nice short numberplate.

Driver's door window glass is missing. Extra bumper (as seen on pix) comes with a towbar.

"fundamentally a concours-potential car."

Erm.......that's completely fucked. Or am I missing something?

You're missing something. It needs a good clean and some tidying.

You're right. I missed the seized brakes, rotten exhaust, brake pipes, tyres, welding and God knows what else it needs to be useable again. At least it's only bridge money so it could be weighed' if it's as knackered as it looks. :D

That's more like it. What a lovely old bus, and the later leatherz really suit it. And it's not worth a toss. Odd when the speccy media trendies will pay 8 million quid for a God awful Citroen DS and these are worth bugger all. Very few old cars are more Guardian than an old school Saaaab.

The one DNJ posted is lurrrrvely, and I'm not really a Saaaaaabist. Do like brown metallic though.

I had one about 5 years ago, a 1978 T reg 99 gl super combi coupe..It was really nice condition, 2 litre manual and all it needed was the headlining replaced and some tyres. I couldn't GIVE it away. really wish I'd kept it now though.

It seems with these things that unless its an EMS/turbo version nobody wants to know.

It won't need brake pipes and seized brakes are just an afternoon's work to sort out. They all need welding, including that fuck-awful chavved-up one that's been posted as an alternative. I bet the shiny one would cost just as much to get on the road, the difference being it'll never be right.

How I chuckled on reading these posts! Richard, the shiny one may be 'right', but chances are greater that it isn't. This one def is, I've just been honest about its condition. RevBJ has the 'skin deep' approach to old cars obviously - which is how much of the less honest classic car trade makes its money. Cleverest bit of all is that if a car does look perfect, but drives orribly, people will be disinclined to use it. So they won't find out what a shabby 'rebuild' they've been conned into buying.

And yes, this one does have concours potential - not that I'd ever fancy such an unusual pastime. It just puts into a few words the fact that although it looks a right mess, needs recommissioning etc. it is fundamentally sound and original, hasn't been messed with, etc. Maybe I should have simply stated 'honest and original'.

Well, you're both convinced by the potential in this one - will there be a 'money where your mouth is' deal going down? I mean, if all it requires is a good clean and four/five hours work to make roadworthy, there's surely an earner there............?

Posted

Of course there isn't an earner there, you said yourself they aren't worth anything, but it could be made into a very nice car very easily.

Having said that, there are obviously a lot of people out there who are easily seduced by a bit of shiny paint so maybe there is money to be made.

The shiny one went for £310, which - if I'd have been more attentive - I'd have happily given for it.

More people want shiny and nice looking things than grubby, unloved looking ones. It's the way of the world. Might not be right, but that's the way it is.
