Another potential scrap yard rescue for sale. Mazda anyone?

Right, sort of half arsedly committed to buying this to help a friend of a friend and save it from scrap but I don't really want it:

1998 'R' plate Mazda 626 2.0 5 door.

MOT'd September.

No tax.

Seems to have a lot of toys like leccy windows, alloys, traction control* and the usual shit like that.

Drives o.k (well on the 500 yard test blast it did anyway) and the engine/box/clutch/brakes seemed fine.

(More details to come but pictures might take a day or so)

Known faults:

Looks like it was last cleaned when God was a lad.

ABS and 'traction control off' lights are on. Switching the traction control button made fuck all difference. Owner reckons since it's had tyres fitted the light came on but hasn't bothered him or effected the way the car drives.

There's a blow where the centre pipe joins the rear box. It's possible it's just the clamp but I can't get under the car enough to find out. It might be 'bodgeable' with some putty or whatever but it might also need the centre pipe or rear box. The latter looks newer then the former though so be warned it could be the centre pipe.

Arches are a bit rough and have been touched in by Roy Orbison after 17 pints of vodka and a fucking good toke. In a force nine gale. As someone electrocuted him with a cattle prod.

I'll clean it up if I take the bloody thing on but it's not my bag and I'll want shut pretty sharpish. Unfortunately the price of scrap plus the cat, alloys and few minor bits will see the asking price but it'd be a waste to launch it as I reckon it'd do someone a good turn for a few months then you could coax it through an MOT or weigh it in and it wouldn't owe you a penny.

£270 or try an offer fairly close by.

Is it this type?

I reckon the TC/ABS is down to one of the sensors being 'damaged' when changing wheels? Sounds obvious, but I drove for about 30k with a juddering ABS at stop before realising the ABS sensor had been knocked out of it's bracket thingy. TC runs off ABS signal and it only needs one sensor out to deactivate it/make it run funny. ;)

Ta Dave.

I think it's a slightly later one than that, when I first saw the back of it I thought it was a Renault of some sort.

Yeah, 1997 will be the really bland looking one.
