Converting a Defender from V8 to 200Tdi

I thought I wanted one. Until I owned one. I guess at least you're unlikely to lose money if you decide you want to sell it again. How old are the kids? My family (my poor mother is rather short) didn't enjoy a trip out in mine. I had to provide a plastic step!

If I was after an activity wagon, I think I'd be tempted by a Mk2 Transit. Especially the facelift ones. After all, they even look like a Discovery...

Ah, but I've already owned one, sort of.

A 109 V8, not a 110. I prefer the interior of the 110, power steering and coil springs would be a 10 million percent improvement over the Series 3 equipment.

The kids loved it, but they've liked all my cars.

A Land Rover is iconic, a design classic. An old Transit van just doesn't hit it, even though it's probably better in every way you can measure. I'd give a Transit van house room if I could use the engine and gearbox in a London taxi 8)

Ok, I'll admit. Your previous is good. Even my cold 4x4 heart could be mellowed by a Stage 1! Of course, my V8 was a 90, so was a bit choppy in terms of ride. Wouldn't rate it that far ahead of an S3, though it was quite capable of being scarily quickly on bends too, which no S3 I've ever driven quite is...(and it stopped well!)

If you want one you don't have to justify it to anybody though, who gives a shit if they don't drive like cars??

As an aside, where have all the cheap series Landys gone? I used to pick them up for about £600 with about 6 months test.

I'd love a 110 V8 on LPG, I'd really love an automatic one :)
