Rocket88 Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 £300 isn't unreasonable, especially if it's metallic paint. You can't just "touch up" modern paintwork, unless you want to end up with a "giffer special" repair job.
Mr Lobster Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Sorry but I wouldn't think you can challenge it, and although I can't see the damage FWIW I don't think thats an unreasonable price. Yeh you could touch it in but it won't look right. Obviously we don't know how bad the A3 was but if someone scraped the rear arch and wing on my car I don't imagine I'd be happy with it being touched up, you'd want it returned to how it was previously.

dieselnutjob Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 I couldn't find anyone that would respray a door for less than £700.£300 including the light is a bargain and as it's less than your excess and you won't have to make a claim I would say just do it. It's a no-brainer.
Guest Leonard Hatred Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 That's a cruel thing to say about scooters.
shite_meister Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 I used to do estimates. You're looking at approx three hours per panel to paint in labour then it'll need 'blending' over to the next panel or it'll stand out a mile, then theres the cost of the materials themselves which are suprisingly expensive. Did they go to a couple of places for quotes? Also if the boot was on the other foot you'd want any damage to be repaired properly to original quality not just 'touched up'
Pete-M Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 There's probably £100 in paint / thinners / hardener / lacquer alone to do the job... £300 isn't expensive. We use various bodyshops in work, and to sort one slight scruffy wheelarch on my Jag, trade, is gonna be close to £200.
Negative Creep Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 Since you caused the crash i dont think youll have a leg to stand on im afraid. Still, at least she hasnt put in a whiplash claim
scooters Posted April 20, 2011 Author Posted April 20, 2011 yeah.....could have been worse - i wrote the OP when I was especially grumpy having opened the phone bill before I ot her email. In reflection it isn't too bad I suppose. This is the only quote they have got so far - i might have a word with the bodyshop I use before agreeing it.
