Bought a Pug 205 Dizzler

Hi All,

I've gone back to basics! I sold my 2009 Vauxhall Insignia a couple of weeks ago & last weekend bought a Pug 205 Mardi Gras Diesel off ebay. Has a set of GTI alloys on it which makes it stand out a bit & green?!? Back box - god knows why last owner painted it....

Its done 92k and is quite different from the Insignia! Its nice to know the rattles are meant to be there unlike the Insignia!

Its got/had a few problems:

Wheel bearings very noisy - Sorted now, £200 at the garage & now a lot quieter

Won't start when warm - After driving 30-40mins on motorway if you stop the engine it won't restart, turn the key & all lights come on & then nothing. - Dunno whats causing this

Grinding Noise after 20Miles or so - Very odd, comes & goes, something lacking lubrication?

But on the plus side it goes like stink & does 420miles to £50, love the turbo whistle too!

Pics soon ;-)

Cheers

Good work!! Think the starting is fairly common, mine does it sometimes too but always starts after a few clicks, gonna whip the terminals off the starter for a clean up and maybe run an extra earth strap to it.

had similar problems with a 305 diesel

once the wire that goes from the key to the starter motor had chafed through and was shorting out on the engine

another time the solenoid (on top of the starter) got sticky and I had to take it a apart and clean it up

the starter motor was quite easy to remove and dismantle on a 305

I thought all those Mardi Gras jobs were NA diesels, shows what I know. I've got a 205 NA diesel, theyre great cars and getting quite rare now. A turbo would be better though. I reckon theres a lot of folk out there who recognise that you just cant go wrong with a 205 diesel and tidy usable ones will always be worth a few groat regardless of age/milage etc.

Theyre even GR8 4 DRIFTIN! PSA FDM HKS XUD GREDDY SNCF I was able to get a pretty smart low-speed 4-wheel drift going in mine on the long sweeping bend near Langley, Haltwhistle, I even took a morning off work one day to practise it. Obv it drifted better downhill than up.

I used to get about 45mpg in mine regardless of driving style which I always found a bit disappointing TBH, i thought I might be able to eke mid-50's out of it but I never got anywhere near that. My grandad reckoned he could easy get 60 out of his on a steady run.... I reckon he was telling me any old shite. D244RCX are you still out there perchance? If so I was your passenger when you drove off the JCT600 forecourt in 1987.

Mine will only start with a wire jumped straight from the bazza to the terminal on the solenoid funnily enough.

I'm in good company with a poor starting pug then.

Here are a few pics I took :

Working it out the other night I was getting 52Mpg which isn't too bad & I wasn't hanging about.

Will have a look at the solenoid/wiring

Cheers
