Peugeot 306 TD

It's not a Golf and can do more than 70 mph without the front wheels clacking like a twat. QUAL MOTOR.

I hate pug 306's! Dunno why, its just one of those cars that doesn't do anything for me.

Is it the image/ownership profile? I like 306s but that puts me off a bit, which is a shame as they're great to drive and the TDs punchy, reliable and economical.

I looked at buying a 306 Sedan a while back which must be the 'shite' option. The boot is a lot bigger than the hatchback's, and more useable unless you want to carry the odd washing machine.

Possibly.. all the 306's I see round here are either badly modified, have bits hanging off or are just total shitheaps, many seem to be driven by dodgy trampy looking 20 something males, plus I just don't like the look of them. They kinda just have the "MK1 Vectra effect" on me.

I don't like later Pugs either, like the 206.

Actually, the 306 sedan I do like the look of- plus they seem to be driven by old farts who garage them every night and live in bungalows in leafy cul-de-sacs.

I like the 306, arguably the most attractive mainstream 1990's hatchback. Probably the last good Peugeot before they morphed into the horrors we see today. Next time I need a cheap runaround it will be very high on the list

The 306 Sedan is certain Autoshite. It's effectively the replacement for the Talbot Solara - and some had rear wipers!

I know why you don't like them, but I owned a 306 DTurbo a few years back, and it was stupidly quick, handled beautifully, rode beautifully and did 45mpg no problem despite me driving like a twat (it did encourage this behaviour, it must be said). Downsides are flaky electrics and the fact they can make you drive like a twat. Lift-off oversteer can be an issue when you're really pushing on, though not quite to 205 standards...

The 306 was at its best on its first facelift. Early grille is naff and the later sparkle-eye facelift is just trying too hard.

The other week I bought a '01 Proton (g)Impian for £450 with a few months tax and ticket on. Must be amongst the shitest 21st Century cars you can buy? Or shittest, at least.

It's obviously shite, and at least 3 shades of silver, but despite lowest of low expectations, it's been ace so far, and it does handle like a massive saloon go-kart all beit a weid gutless one with all the power delivery in the first half-inch of pedal. It's mostly just weird, but at the minute I wouldn't swap it for any of the last 10 cars I've owned.

I have looked at the impian, I love the looks! No hatchback version though, although the low price could offset this. Theres been an LPG powered one floating around ebay and autotrader for the last 6 months or so- they don't seem very popular!

Proton Shatira? They come in hatchback flavour and the sporty ones are absolutely ace fun to drive.

Satria 1.5 Sport and 1.8Gti are both supposed to be a good value thrash wagon

Impians were stupidly expensive when new, given what they were up against in the marketplace, and their core customer demographic. One of my mates who is a minicabbist got one dirt cheap, PSV'd it, and got about 90k miles taxiing in it before the gearbox bearings went. Put it this way, it cost him very little, and earned him a lot of money!
