Which rev counter and how?

Hi all, going to get ribbed for this but I want to fit a rev counter my old Austin 1300, can you please advise on which type I need and how to wire it in? I seem to remember something about the coil being involved but havent looked into it in donkeys years!

Older type rev counters are wired directly to the coil. New cars are wired to the HID aircon headlights or something.

Try not to get one red-lined at 10,000rpm

you'll only use the bottom corner

I use Yazaki ones , wire straight off the coil , they did a little 52mm one which is small but looks the part , no new ones about now but they are really reliable , had one of mine over 20 years now , still works fine

This ones on the bay , a day to go and cheap at present

I use Yazaki ones ,

They get a thumbs up from me too. NOT SMITHS etc means they don't cost so much but they look right. I've got a 50mm one in the Hillman (useful as a speedo) and an 80mm one in the Oxford. You may well find an "extra" wire which is to supply a feed for the internal light - taken from the sidelight/dash light circuit.
