Cavcraft Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 Once again, awesome The boot floors and exhaust hangers all seem to do that eventually by the way! They're torquey old buses the GTi models and are a blast to drive, as you obviously now know.Looking forward to the pictures!
nigel bickle Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 Well done. Nice trip The injectors never tended to stick open with me-prob because I never used more than half throttle| Towed well, toured well -didnt push it hard though. Wire brushed the mechanism once- added wd40 -fine for a while so doing that properly will prob sort it. Boot floor I was unaware of -but then it was ''a working car''.Most of that old cack is down to me-sorry! Exhaust is mismatched at the rear axle-10 mins welding or a replacement silencer will sort. Couldnt be arsed- worked good enough for what I needed Torsten may have told you that it towed his Estafette up to London & the huge old Gaz back. it also did several Continental tow trips- without any issues.Felt cinfident enough not to take out breakdown cover- and it never let me down From memory-it always starts, butuses a little oil & water( -compared to a comparable Italian --zilch).Occasional topup only. The oil pressure guage tends to leap around or kip all day. Leaping about -esp on corners may signify low oil -best check. Its a strong willing, economical car. Too me it always felt willing, eager to please. Enjoy it- it;ll serve you well.
dollywobbler Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 It's very true that the BX is one of the easiest cars to drive quickly cross-country, even a sluggish NA diesel like mine. The ride is not as smooth as a CX/GS for one very good reason - the BX uses MacPherson struts which the French mucked about with to fit a sphere at the top. It does simplify things, but at the expense of ultimate ride comfort. That said, the BX seems stiffer in suspension terms than the GS/CX anyway, so it might just be that. I prefer the BX to the CX because it is less floaty. The CX was a nightmare on Welsh mountain roads as it gets confused by humpbacks and is very easy to ground out. The BX just sails over all terrain. I'd like to try an 8v GTi one day. As you say, they're amazing on fuel. Even my 16v could achieve 40mpg if I could avoid straying into the 4000rpm+ fun zone...
dollywobbler Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 GR8 4 BEE-IN SCOOTERS!http://www.bxclub.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13722
scooters Posted January 29, 2011 Author Posted January 29, 2011 Thanks guys and thanks Nigel Worry not about the cac...I was grateful for it as a couple of the bolts helped me with a sherpa badge today! I'll probably tear down an# clean and reassembled the throttle lever arrangement as I am sure,as you day, there is dirt causing the sticking. I'll live with the exhaust till MOT time them will have the welding and a replacement scilencer fitted. The gauge on corners is indeed oil. I recollected about 200mls oil and about the same in coolant for every 500 motorway miles which was par the course with much of my other tin except hap or Volvo based. V nice motor though R
