Broken Swiss Shite

Well the Maverick went back (as it was on loan from a local), to be replaced with two vehicles, an brand spanking VW Transporter TDi 4motion, and a Toyota Rav 4.

They weather has been like this for the last few days -

Not that dissimilar to the UK I guess, although one morning it was -22... Things seem to move along, although OMG TRAFFIC CHAOS was caused the other day by a furniture truck trying to get up a steep pass without chains, slewing across the road blocking it in both directions. The Locals were not amused.

Had to clean off the VW this morning as it was needed to transfer some clients from the train station

Was headed over to Chamonix this evening, on an emergency mission to sort out another area of the company, and 15 miles into the journey the Rav decided to munch it's oil pump. Manage to get it off the autoroute and down a side road in the middle of no-where. Engine was pretty much seized up, rattling and cutting out. Bumhats!

So, sat at the side of the road waiting for my Driver to come get me, as the time ticked by slowly the temperature drops to -13.. Luckily my Ski gear was in the boot so I could keep warm. 5 different people stopped to check that I was ok, offering lifts to the nearest town etc. Doubt that would happen in the UK. Although here there is a fair chance of hypothermia so people tend to look after you.

Looks like the Rav is properly borked though. This is an additional problem to a myriad of other ones it seems to have. Sticking Caliper, dodgy clutch, odd electrical problems, etc etc.. Strange for a Toyota, but the Alps are not kind to cars...

What year is that Rav4? What engine?

Are you getting it fixed or will you get a replacement?

Not sure whats happening, its the VVti engine, whatever that is!

It's down to the company, getting quotes for the repairs, hopefully they'll get it fixed! Apparently last year it suffered complete abuse, hence why it's knackered now!

I don't think it's that old, maybe a 2004?

Apparently the Hagland (posted in another thread) has just tried to mate with the VW.
