Fitting Brake Servo

Recommended Posts

I am trying to fit the Brake servo to Bedford CF one. I have got a Girling one from Car Spares in Sipson. It looks pretty identical aside from the four mounting nuts are just slightly out against the holes in the van.

It has been a real hassle tracking one down for a sensible price so I want to try and make it fit. Ideally I need to enlarge 2 of the holes but then I was going to fit the nut with steel washers to take up the extra room.

Couple of questions really

1) is it ok to do this or should I track down a correct one?

2) What can I use to enlarge the holes? I have a file but it doesnt seem to touch the metal. The drills I have are a bit too small. Do I just buy a big drill bit or is there a special sort of hole saw for metal?

It'll be fine as long as everything points up and the unions are on the side and the plunger from the pedal is seated in the master cylinder.

Ran out of time last weekend. Will get on to it this weekend hopefully.

Bought an £8 servo on friday from ebay so might see what condition that is in and if I can do a straight swap I will. Got a feeling I might have to change the front right brake cylinder as it was pulling to the right under really hard braking.

Still need to get it sorted and sold as I have accepted offer on the house so could be moving very soon!
