Every cloud....

....Has a silver lining, an' all that....Well, if there is a small silver lining in the bloody great cloud that is the untimely death of my Dad, I suppose this is it....This, it seems, will be coming to me....

....My Dad's BMW F800s....A really nice, low mileage, sorted example, that's just had extensive engine work undertaken under warranty (To cure a rattle-I think it's basically a new engine). There is proper BMW luggage for it aswell, plus a few little mods of my Dad's....He liked to get his bikes just right!

I've always wanted a BMW....I probably wouldn't have chosen this particular model myself (An R1200RT is more my thing), but it certainly rides nicely, has stuff like heated grips, computer, and ABS, as is apparently averaging 70mpg (although admittedly, we're still running in!)....But still....It beats wobbling around on an elderly Kawasaki ZR750s I suppose! :)

Sorry for your loss, Baz, but that is a silver lining. Good bikes, those. The older 650's were a bit weedy, allegedly, but the 800's got just enough in it to be interesting.

I'm not of BMW cars but I love the bikes!

Me too....Ever since the old chap traded his Guzzi LeMans for this....

....Thirty years ago! :D

The F800 is a parallel twin, yet it still manages to sound like a proper BMW....It's torquey too, and possibly slightly over-geared....Where on my Kawasaki I'm forever searching for another gear that isn't there, on the BMW, I was cruising along, nice and relaxed, only to look down at the instruments and discover that I had another gear!

Very nice Baz, my mate is a mechanic in Gt Yarmouth and is BMW bike mad. If and when the bike is out of warranty, he is really good with Beemers, pm me if you want a trustworthy if a little rough round the edges bloke to look after your pride and joy. He buys a brand new R1200 or similar nearly every year! :D

Thats lovely Baz- and will be a nice reminder of him, everytime you sling a leg over.I doubt he'd have wanted it differently -I know I wouldnt.

I still tool up to London on an ageing K100RS -bought 32 years ago. I've travelled all over Europe & the eastern bloc on it with nary a murmur (well -maybe one).

I love mine to bits-and envy your acquisition-although commiserate with the way you acquired it.

Ride it with pride-you both deserve it.

I intend to....Thanks....I'm gonna keep it forever, and do some touring on it, which is the kind of use Dad would approve of....I may well supplement it with something more "Modern" in years to come, but it will always be in my garage....Maybe one day, it'll be in "Classic Bikes"

I have a couple of my Dads old cars stuffed up the top of the barn -bought them off him when he became infirm.

Fond memories- everytime I sit in either.
