Selling my Scirocco

Selling this on the Scirocco forum. Not sure if it would float anyones boat on here mind but might as well tout it a wee bit. Looking at completed items on e-bay etc I am doubting it will sell at that price as there is no market for these at the mo, so I might just keep it but there is no harm in trying. If it was some other sort of car the price would be a bargain for a car in this condition. But I'm not complaining as that's how I got it in the first place, cheap.

I do like the ones on car and classic that are up for thousands. WTF? What world are they living in??????

Model: Scirocco GT 1.6

Year: 1987

Mileage: 90,000

Tax: None

MOT: 12 months

Current owner: Yes

V5 present: Yes

Location: Leeds

Price: £450

Contact Details: Send me a PM and I will buzz you right back

My Rocco has been sadly languishing waiting for its turn to be done up for many months now and I have to admit, it aint gonna happen as I have my Imp, my GT6 and the DAF to do too. Using absolutely no logic whatsoever i am going to get shot of the one that needs the least work.

Have got it up for more elsewhere but willing to let it go a bit cheaper to a forum member who is going to look after it and give it the lovin' it needs.

It is in remarkably good condition and I have never noticed any welding having been done on it (i will check the history tonight to confirm this). There are 2 bits of rust bubbling up (pictured) which need attention but thats it. The paint job is not brill TBH. It was resprayed a few years ago and it was not done well. There is some overspray on the trim and a bit of orange peel on the doors. The respray was just because the previous owner pampered it, not because they were hiding anything. In the 2 and a half years I have owned it there has been no rust bubbling up from anywhere. Overall its okay though but could do with being touched up a wee bit.

It was family owned since new until I got it and as you can see it has an extensive history file. It really has wanted for nothing in its time.

At the MOT last week there were advisories on the front brake pads, 1 tyre being a bit close to the limit and dim reversing lights (????????). Is not taxed at the mo but I can tax at buyers expense as its insured and MOT'd.

Am writing this knowing I will regret selling it but it really has been surplus to needs for some time now and its time for someone else to have their turn with it.

Sure i will think if some other bits and bobs later and will update it but if you have any questions let me know.

This is a mystery.

I have sent pm's on here and also on the Scirocco forum

A long time for a response

then it had broken down

then (early last week) waiting for part

then, despite being read,

pm's asking what is happening and if it is still for sale not responded to,

Is this normal?

there is £400, a railway timetable and insurance quotes all in a heap on my sideboard,

HI is a top bloke. He bought my daf. I wouldn't worry if he hasn't got back to you he will have a good reason why he can't.

Utterly reliable I can vouch entirely for his honesty and dedication to the cause.

Ta Scooters, I have spoken to him. I have been off the radar for a few days as have been ill. Had not been on here and read any messages until today and the Rocco Register yesterday aft. Not sure what the read messages thing was about but no matter. Was not even aware of this post until you brought it back up the board. Anyhoo, I digress, its all sorted and the chap is coming up on Monday to pick it up.

Will be sad to see it go but have too much to do carwise at the mo and on top of that I am (hopefully) moving house.

DAF is running great by the way. Eor did a far bit of work on it to get it running sweetly, as its kept just down the road from his and Linda's place. So much fun to tootle around in.

Good to see this is all sorted. Is it just me or are these things obscenely good value? They dont even suffer from scene tax. I'm not really a fan of later 80s cars but i'd happily blezz about in one of these!

They are IMHO. Obviously once i dont own one they will rocket up in value but they are selling for sod all on e-bay and on the forums.

You have all these chancers trying to push up the value with stupid prices, but they are generally on sale for a fair while.

I suppose its how much one is worth to someone, but i would not want to spend £5k on a car when someone could pay £400 for one thats near identical.

Whilst mine is not perfect and will require regular maintenance (as per any old car I guess) its right good value for money compared to other cars from the era.

I've done it again, that's why I post so infrequently.

Because I always get my tone of voice wrong.

I spoke to the very pleasant Mr Imp last night,

re-read this today where I come across as the grumpiest old sod on the planet.

Apologies to all,

I'm really quite exited,

I've not bought a new car since I sold my Trabant

back in 2005.

I'll put up pictures of the entire fleet shortly,

or I might just go back to lurking

(which I seem to be able to manage).

Met today and sold the car. Very pleasant chap.

He has had Scirocco's before and also has a Porsche 944 and 2 other VW's so its gone to an enthusiast :D

Hopefully its got him home okay and will provide plenty of happy hours angular 80's motoring. Quite sad to see it go now, but needs must and all that. Almost guaranteed to go up in value now i dont own it (hopefully not a reflection on me).

Now I need to put the GT6 back together and sell that too....

Good to hear this all worked out well, It was thinking that your Scirocco seemed quite a bargain, One of my work mates was looking for one to do as a project with his son, He was telling me about how expensive all the ones he looked at was and how shit they all were, this would have been perfect for him i think, Mind you your the other end of the county so he wouldn't have gone for it.

If your mate goes onto the Scirocco Register there are a few on there that go for realistic prices. You get the people sticking them up for silly money still, but the forum regulars put them up for realistic prices as they realise that a set of coilovers and an iron cross on the bonnet does not make the car worth £2k. There might be something a bit nearer you on there too.

They seem to go for good (low) prices on e-bay as well (which is where I bought that one).

Drive looks a bit bare now. :(

Got a text off the Barefoot Chef who has got home okay and seems happy with his purchase. :D

Excellent, happy punter here.

Scotty Hillman met me as arranged at Leeds railway station,

the deal was completed and the car, as promised drove back home

without drama - but also without much acceleration...

I suspect that either the throttle is not opening fully

or perhaps the second choke is not opening.

We will soon see.

The Scirocco will join the fleet which consists of a

'79 VW type 2 Camper - owned since '96 - before scene tax was introduced & a late tin top - so still un-hip

an '87 944S - owned since '94 - the problematic 16V with minimal throttle response below 4000rpm - so unwanted

a '72 1303 - owned since '85 - McPherson struts - the archetypal unwanted 'fat chick'

half a beetle trailer - just shite

and a '78 Honda ST 70 - bought as a non runner and immediately taken to bits, repainted Orange with a white seat

to match & hang on the back of my camper van - only later did I discover that it had been the rare & desirable 'Lady Dax'

If you are telling me i have been driving round in that for the last 2 and a half years at the speed of a snail when I could have been going faster I will be gutted.:lol::lol: I just thought it was shit slow.

If you do get it running right I might have to come down to your neck of the woods and have a go in it.
