Taking a car off SORN

I know that you have to tax a car to take it off SORN but I'm looking for exact details on what where and how.

Basically my Micra has got no MOT, no TAX or Insurance at the moment. It is registered on a SORN which is not due up for the next 6 months.

As I understand it, I cannot tax it unless it has MOT or is there another legal way around it? As when I get it insured I'm looking to book it in for an MOT (Which I'll make sure will be noted down by garage) and drive straight there, I'm just worried about some over-zealous copper looking to take it away.

Would I be ok legally to drive it insured staight to the MOT station on the day of test even though it will still be registered on a SORN? Or do I need to contact the DVLA first?

Thanks in advance.

simply put YES....the vehicle must be insured and booked in for an MOT, no tax required. If you drive straight to the testing station, if it passes, you are allowed to drive to your nearest taxing Post Office.

You are fine to drive to an MoT with no worries at all. The only people you need to notify in advance are the garage doing the MoT

Just be aware that if it fails on a serious issue that you can still be nicked for driving with a defect, dont want to worry you so hope all goes well. :D

I'm sure it'll be fine. The car was in very good working order when parked-up and I have driven around the private yard where its stored and everything works well. It'll probably need a new battery though (again  )
