Any opinions on a Daihatsu Terios?

Still mulling over the options for a winter set of wheels. Just seen a brochure for these and despite them advertising it with photos of a car in a nice green colour I can't actually have from them, they're growing on me. Or am I wrong?

My mother in law has one, she seems to like it and has had no issues at all with it, it swallows 2 dogs ok too :)

Seems like quite an acceptable substitute for a Subaru Justy, I'd have one.

They're very reliable, early ones were a belt driven overhead cam HC code 1300cc engine which can be prone to a little piston slap, later ones from around 2001 are the chain driven 1300cc K3VE engine. The most major repair that we have done on one of these is replacing the water pump. Valve clearances are by way of shims, a very time consuming job, we had to set one up on an engine that had had a LPG conversion.

The latest shape mark 2 models have a similar engine, except that it is 1500cc.

The Jimny is too small - I had a look at one earlier this year. The Terios seems big enough to replace my BMW as the estate car in the family and it's 4x4 which will come in handy around the wintry lanes for wifey (she's from the mountains - all cars have to be at least 4x4 in her simple mind - her latest favourite is an Alvis Stalwart  ). With these boxes ticked, I am free to buy something for myself that does not need to conform to any household requirements and I can forget about expensive Shoguns, X5's and Discovery bollocks that has been worrying me for a while.

id stick with the Terios idea..Roburs were horrific..i bought a brand new old stock bus for 25ODM in Berlin..sold it for double..get an IFA W50 or 60 instead..

i called her to the screen and pointed at it. She totally agrees with you. It would look excellent stuck half way up a ramp in St Giles Street car park - and that's where she'd try and park it. I once took her to that army surplus vehicle sales place somewhere up the A1 near Grantham. Shouldn't have done that.

My Uncle has a Terios (In Purple). Despite the colour it has been a really good car he tells me. Over 100,000 miles with no trouble at all so far. Was only chatting to him about it a couple of weeks ago an he is well pleased with it - had it from new. Think its about 7/8 years old now.

I thought they were ugly little shitters driven by old Farts.

Sorry, an old Legacy Estate is what you need.

Are we talking new or old model here?

Doesn't matter really....I like both!

Is mpg an important factor here?

If not, may I suggest an early RAV4? Dynamically they are in another world. Just try one before you get your heart set on a Terios.

There are plenty of nice ones cheaply available.

I was thinking of buying new or nearly new. An older Rav4 is very much on the list of possibilities though. CRV too.
