There have been a mind melting amount of car makers in South America, I'm just scraping the surface here with a few of the more shite ones.

First up is Gurgel (crazy name, crazy guys), they were responsible for some of the worst looking cars I've seen. This Carajás looks like a moulded plastic children's toy. It has a front engine and a rear mounted transaxle, which apparently created some delays in gearchanges!

I like their BR-800 supermini, it looks like something from a dystopian future.

Would drive this, shovels and all. The positive camber on the back wheel belies its origins.

Another Brazilian effort, the Santa Matilde. It's powered by 4 and 6 cylinder Chevrolet engines. I like it, even the Mazda Montrose nose.

This is their Conusor intended for the taxi market and powered by the legendary Indenor diesel. Not sure what's going on with the blue one, maybe it's a public toilet.

The incredible Lutteral Comahue again from Argentina - looks like a take on the Buick Riviera.

The Comahue is derived from the lovely AMC Rambler-based Torino which eventually ended up badged as a...

One of my favourite subjects... I wish there were some decent English-language books about S.American cars, they are fascinating. I think I covered a bit of it on one of my old random picture threads. I love the Comahue things, they are really nice. There were actually a few good looking sporty cars from those parts, this Argentinian Tulietta Gt being one

And I've always liked this Brazilian variation on the Karmann-Ghia

Brazil of course had the lovely FNM Onca coupe

The astonishingly pretty Puma GT

And the license-built Alpine by Willys, the Interlagos!
