dollywobbler Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 Ok, so as predicted by all and sundry here, the CX's interior mirror repair lasted right up until the moment that a few weeks later, I decided to adjust it. So, what SHOULD I use to give me back my rear vision? I'm planning some serious car fettling this week - the 2CV's going to finally get some relays for the headlamps as the switch smells like burning...
Richard Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 If you get hold of a Ford-style mirror and buy a sticky pad from a Ford dealer for around 50p it'll never fall off again. The Ford pad might work with the Citroen's own mirror, it wouldn't hurt to try.
Lankytim Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 Drill a hole in the back of the mirrors mounting face then use a sharp metal spike to stab a suitable hole through the front of the roof on the passenger side. Then attatch the mirror to the inside of the roof using a long bolt and washers. Guaranteed to never fall off again!
Guest Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 Unbolt your seat and then put it in backwards.
garethj Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 Araldite Rapid. Clean the inside of the glass with vinegar, let it evaporate and clean the back of the mirror with whatever nasty Trichloroethylene you can find. Mix up some Araldite Rapid, spread it thin over the mirror part and bung it on. Then, curse as you forgot to cut 2 strips of 2 inch gaffer tape which you would have used to hold the mirror in place whilst the glue dries (15 minutes or so). Try calling for help and then just wait as the blood slowly drains from your hand and arm. I gave up after 10 minutes and the mirror slid slowly down by half an inch, leaving a snot-like smear on the inside of the glass. Don’t adjust the mirror for 24 hours, when the glue will be fully set.
Station Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 Protons/Mitsubishis have roof mounted rear view mirrors!
Father Ted Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 Get yourself down A&E and purloin some Dermabond skin glue It will never shift again. F*ck superglue, this stuff is the nads at sticking anything to anything else.
Formula Autos Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 Tiny TV screen in place of the mirror (the sort you can hang under kitchen cupboards) and a rear facing camera perhaps? It's no doubt what Citroen would have done, if such things had existed when they were developing the CX. Not sure how the MOT tester would react though.
FredTransit Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 Generic mirror from Halfrauds? You can get em with a sucked mounting for the glass.
Richard Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 I think some posts got lost in the Unpleasantness, IIRC this was resolved by a window fitter.
FredTransit Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 Unpleasantness? Was that unpleasantness as in forum outage, or as in an online punch up?
dollywobbler Posted September 18, 2010 Author Posted September 18, 2010 Yeah, got a place in Huntingdon (Masterglass Windscreens, plug, plug - very friendly) to re-fit it. The CX mirror has a metal boss, which is why the Halfrauds pads are no good. The chap used some magic glue, and it seems to work. Didn't charge me a penny.
