Just got back from a thoroughly enjoyable trip to Hungary. Plenty of shite on offer. Camera issues prevented me getting many pics but there are more to follow soon. Great place, great people. Im not well versed on Eastern Bloc commercials so help from you guys would be appreciated.

 

I have some pics to follow of a UAZ pick up that my Aunties neighbour took me to his garage to show me. He was going to put a Ford transit engine and box in it. Top man he was!

Does anyone know about Csepel? I had never heard of them.

The lorry is an IFA W50, built in east Germany. The truck range was pretty good (by eastern European standards) and many were exported to African countries. Many are still doing sterling service over there, or so I'm told! They were strong, rugged and a few were converted into mobile homes. Some parts were borrowed from the IFA parts bin; I recognise those headlights from a Wartburg 311/312!

I haven;t heard of Csepel but... they have a distinctive germanic appearance, like a Magirus-Deutz or an old Opel!

Csepel was the name of the massive industrial plant on an island in Budapest. It was meant to be a model socialist home/work district.
