Lexus update No 1 - not off to a great start!

Since getting the Lexus home on Saturday I shunted it around the village but didn't drive anywhere far.

At 7:45am this morning, suited and booted, with little Charlie under one arm (I take him to nursery on route to work), I try and get into the Lexus to find that the driver's lock doesn't operate the central locking. Not only that, the lock did not de-activate the immobiliser. Bugger. Lexus won't start. I ended up taking the W123 230E to work. Man, I love that car. 8)

Whilst the car is badged as a Lexus deep down it is a Toyota. I wasn't too fussed about this morning's problem because I once had the same fault with my old MR2. It was cold and damp this morning, which caused the connector block on the back of the lock to lose connection. I got the door trim off and after a quick squirt of WD40 the central locking was back in working order and the V8 promptly fired up. 8)

Just as well I have experience of old Toyotas, otherwise I'd be scratching my head and arse trying to figure out what caused the problem. Whilst the Lexus is packed with electronics, a little bit of knowledge and basic tools is all you need to get it going.

Better luck tomorrow.

I've had the same problem with my prole Cavalier, the central locking works off the boot lock luckily

A Lexus might be completely different though, maybe one of the first cars with blanked off locks apart from the driver's?

The Lexus does have a passenger side door lock. The car was parked with the left side close to a fence and the only way to get to the passenger lock was to climb over the roof, which I wasn't prepared to do in my shirt and tie!

Nope. My 1973 Hillman Imp had that. :D
