If I am lucky that will sort things out (pending inspection and adjustment of the parking brakes). If not, I am going to need the plastic cogs I bought in a kit off eBay just in case. That looks almost identical to the units that Renault use on their vehicles of a similar vintage. Urko 1

Crikey - that's actually very useful, I am just watching a video of a bloke doing one on a gooner 3 and the internals appear identical. Barry Cade and Coprolalia 2
Urko Posted February 15 Author Posted February 15 Round 2 today. At first (after a lot of struggling to remove it) I was dissapointed there was no obvious problem with the wee plastic gears - until I looked a bit closer - Yeah, that won't be helping much. Wibble, GrumpiusMaximus and beko1987 3
SiC Posted February 15 Posted February 15 I think I've got an old Scenic II unit in the garage. Bought it second hand as something to test against CAN diagnosis. As a compulsive hoarder, I don't think I threw it away. If I haven't, would it be useful to you? No idea how similar the insides are but maybe some bits might be useful from it?

Speaking as a hoarder, that's very kind but no thank you. SiC 1
Urko Posted February 16 Author Posted February 16 Well it's all back together and working. New cogs fitted - ebay £29. I haven't been able to deal with the issue of the rusty remains of the old mounting plate and the bolts so I have zip tied everything to within an inch of its life. Parking brake started working normally straight away with zero issues and no coding etc. needed. Tickman, Rust Collector, Gaffer and 2 others 2 3
SiC Posted February 16 Posted February 16 Was going to say on the Renault's you're supposed to reset it with a diag tool if you yank the emergency handle but a couple of actuations on/off usually sorts it. Urko 1
red5 Posted February 16 Posted February 16 10 stops from xx mph using only parking brake iirc. ps, usually fail because no-one ever strips, cleans, adjust parking brake shoes. On a 2.7 tonne vehicle. Just saying.
Urko Posted February 17 Author Posted February 17 Yep this one was due to me not getting around to adjusting the brakes, after having the familiar squeal a couple of times. When the weather is better as I don't have a garage at present I will revist this and sort out the bracket and clean up the shoes etc. As someone else mentioned, the backplates are pretty shot from rust as well.
