Another very cheap Cabriolet Golf, with no windows or heater.

Today  I took  a visit to Dodge City, as I won a nice little ULEZ friendly rust free 1.6 Golf for £520 with a years MOT, but I didn’t bother looking it over, as I really only wanted it for the roof as it’s got a lovely newish Mohair roof and  it’s had money thrown at it over the years and only just  recently had  a new clutch and I thought it would help keeping my minty £250 example on the road for a few more years.

Shes a high mileage car at 156,000 miles but it drives spot on and the engine is really quiet, in fact it’s quieter than my 80,000 mile example and apart from a worn and sloppy gear linkage it drives spot on.

The poor elderly lady who had owned the car since 2005, had  recently got Mugged while taking  her dog for a walk with her friend and the scum that attacked her used a knife and an axe to take her phone and car keys and then broke into the car.

She didn’t know what was broken etc, but it’s been parked up since and everything is still intact apart from I don’t seem to have a petrol gauge, or a heater blower or interior light or front electric windows although the rears work.

I’m hoping the Vermin have just blown a few fuses when breaking into the car, as although it’s a spares car its completely rot free in all the usual places and my other half loves it, so I’m guessing I’m going to have to give it a reprieve as it was faultless on the 80 odd mile drive home apart from when I thought I was going into 5th and actually went into 3rd at around 60mph and the needle went round to around 4500 rpm lol

I’ve even got some spares I can throw at it, as I have a a spare seat cover in the same pattern that will sort out that small hole in the drivers seat, and a spare passenger door handle with a seized lock, although a MK3 Golf rear door handle does the job without a key hole and are less than a tenner new.

So do I do it up or scrap it, as this is car number 7 lol

Here it is in all its glory.

Looks very clean. I thought I'd spied the usual beginnings of front wing rot but then realised it was one of the cracks in my phone screen 🤣

I suspect you already know the answer to this.

You buy another for parts, for the original one, and then another for parts for this one.

And then another for parts for those....

Works for me 👍

I’ve done that too many times, she’s also a high mileage hero at 157,000 miles but the  previous lady owner really did look after the car and said she was so glad that it was going to a good home after seeing a picture of my black one.

So now I feel guilty scrapping it, I’ve parked it on my mother’s driveway for the week and even she said it’s a beautiful looking car and said you can’t scrap it lol.

If I can get the electrics working then I will give it a new lease of life.
