Dukeries Rally

Went out with t'camera again.... field was quite skewed towards the beginners (no bad thing, they've got balls!) but still quite a lot of £50k+++ Escorts getting quite close to trees.

Ended up at Blidworth, the first "local" rally I've ever done so took me a while to get into the spirit of walking up the course between cars, and then diving for the side before getting pelted with stones. Previously I've gone to the big name rallies where the spectators are quarter of a mile away behind safety fencing.

Plenty of Novas!

Bored of red Mk2s? Have this! Odd plate though, Mk3 front and Mk4 rear, RWD.

Red Escorts aside, there was some other nice stuff in the pre-81 field

At this point I realised my feet were 18" inches from where the tyres were mashing the edge of the verge....

Cosworths seem to have suddenly died out from private rallying...

Bless him, this chap seemed to lose 1st gear and limped off in 2nd from here. Saw him travelling back from a later stage though so hope he fixed it.

Finally, the really really big boys came out to play

Do you have to have balls of steel to do this? Looks very 'one mistake and it's over' type of thing. Nice, colourful pics!

Yeah, well it takes a certain style of driving. My colleague is prepping a Nova, should be out later in the season - 1400cc with twin 40s and all the proper rally gubbins and stuff. He does drive his road car like a nutter when it's safe to do so, but is often to be found just pootling around. I guess it's down to knowing when your foot can be planted, knowing the car dynamics and which way it's going to drift etc.

One chap in a Mk2 seemed to bottle it on a bumpy straight and got an awful fish-tail going, very nearly stacked it. Yet others in the same place kept the foot down and the car seemed to correct itself.... that bit would take guts!

Even the FWD stuff can go wrong, this picture

I would have normally been out taking pics on this, but unfortunately had to work, then headed over to Blyton for the Rallycross night race.

Was a shame to here that 1 competitor was tragically killed during the rally. My condolences go out to the family.

Good pics, Pillock

I watched Blyton on TV last night, looked fun.

Was even better there, a good turn out considering there was some sort of football match on the tv
