Octane Classic Car guide

I'm a bit of a fan of octane magazine, mostly due to the reasonably interesting articles. I stumbled across a MagBook Classic car guide, published by Octane at the service station yesterday and assumed it would aimed at Aston Martin or Ferrari owners, but it turns out to be a well written and quite accurate guide to most classic cars from 1945 to 1980.

Admittedly it misses out a huge chunk of foreign cars - namely the Japanese, but at least has an entry for the Datsun 100A and 120Y, as well as the usual Z and skyline models. Its pretty compehensive on British cars - including the likes of Ambassadors and Viceroys. It even has an entry for the Renault 14, Alfa 6 and Seat Ibiza. It features a technical spec, small 100 word write up and image of each car - not unlike the Observers book of cars but with a price guide. Its not cheap for a magazine - £8.00 but if you're bored and wish to loiter and kill time in WH Smiths then its perfect.

I had a quick flip through but some of the omissions were strange - no Cortina Mk1 apart from the Lotus, but all the other Cortinas including seperate entries on the 4 and 5, which no one else ever bothers with. The info on the cars they did have was pretty accurate though. Looking at it as a book rather than a magazine, £8 is great value.
