peugeot 404 diesel estate

Rust (they're made from thick old metal, but they don't seem to have been very well protected from the factory) and much slowness, although later versions of the Indenor engine should fit - luzz in a 2.5TD out of a 505 for sleeper status and potential smoky drifting. Otherwise they're great old motors - very robust (a million Nigerians can't be wrong) and drive better than the British Farinas. And pretty rare in diesel estate form. Buy it and make me jealous.

The early Indenors can have head gasket problems. Despite having 23 head bolts the heads seam impossible to seal down once they go. The later 2.3 or 2.5 engines (but not early 2.3) had screw in injectors instead of clamped and these had much stronger head bolts and stronger thread in the block to take a higher torque. The 2.3/2.5 engines are easy to get as many were fitted to LDV vans and I think would be a bolt in replacement anyway. The biggest issue will be rust as said.
