Ford 1.6 diesel "quick, quiet and clean"

It is exactly that . Usually the fords fare better than the PSA installations because they had a 12500 mile interval vs 20000 but a lot of them are fitted in bland kiddy cars which never get the washer bottle topped up let alone serviced . 
I look after a couple of early 1.4/1.6 hdis with over 200k on and apart from some injector seals , egr valve and maybe a boost hose they have been solid . 

I wonder why Ford gave a different service interval to Peugeot for what is basically the same engine

Think it fitted in with the rest of their range at the time

I used to run a mk5b td Escort van when I had my takeaway. It did the weekly run down to the Wolverhampton wholesalers and back at a nice steady pace.

Loading it up to the roofline with trays of pop,burger boxes and 300l of fresh oil took the edge of the performance though...

It was run on the lightly filtered oiĺ from all the fryers,sometimes the oil was still warm..A bit of diesel was mixed in when the temps dropped to help it start in the mornings,

Ended up replacing it with a Pajero Exceed which possibly used even more fuel..

One of my favourite ever cars was an end of line Mk1 Focus (Black, 3 Door) with the 1.8 TDCi in it.

My mate previously when we were younger had the Mk5 Escort with the TDDI(?) in it. What an utter dog of a car that was. Impossible to get smoothly moving, shook the car to bits.

It wasn't until later on that I read somewhere that the TDCi evolved from the aforementioned Escort diesel? If so it's frankly unbelievable they were even within the same millennium of each other, never alone anything else...!
