New North East Autojumble details

Hi there. As you probably know, there are no autojumbles in the North East (teeside being the closest), so starting on the 23rd of May, there will be a new indoor and outdoor autojumble and classic car show starting at Kirkley Hall near Ponteland. Main reason we have started this up, is that as classic car owners ourselves, we are tired of having to travel long distances to an autojumble and then end up at a wet field with poor toilets and the only food to be swimming in grease. So this autojumble will be totally different - All of the parking is on tarmac, there is a cafe, and the toilets are proper ones within the building. Another good point will be that the admission charges are the cheapest around at £1.50 (children free), and the prices in the cafe are cheap (70p for a tea for example). So i hope you can come, and we can make this event fantastic.

Many thanks,

Chris Watson.

autojumblers dont care about the toilets and greasy foodhow many stallholders have you signed up so far (with 12 days to go)?

23rd May is my birthday... can I get in free please?

Posted

Pandaselecta, I replied on the TDC forum about this, but didn't think there'd be any harm in doing likewise on here, erm, where was I? Oh aye, count me in. I might get me some Volvo bits there, and maybe even a nice set of Wolfies for the Dollop.

how many stallholders have you signed up so far?

Yeah, we need to know this please, 'cos if there are only half a dozen stalls on the day, and it's padded out with people selling cheap tools and general car boot shite, then I'm washing my hair that day. :D:wink:

We have 11 sellers booked indoors, and 7 outside. Plus we have another 5 sellers who might come :) All this is before its even in the papers, so hopefully we will get more :)edit - all the stalls are proper classic stuff too, no market traders selling bin bags and clothes pegs

so you are going to have an advertising blitz less than 2 weeks before the event?what advertising in the 'classics' press have you done so far?

Hmm, on the one hand, I want to support such a venture as the punters will be the people to decide whether it works and therefore whether it happens again, but £2.50 to get in when there are only 18 confirmed stalls is a little steep. On the other hand, a big advert in the Chron would surely attract some punters. :)

there will be an advert in the Chronicle this Friday and next week, also it will be in Classic Car Weekly next week. It is also on the Morgans yearbook site, on a few different forums, and there has been over 100 posters put into shops around the north east

Do you have a template for the poster? I could make copies and stick some in shops around areas that may be a bit further afield, depending of course on where you put them up.I'm thinking I could pop some up here, in the village shop and post office, also in Alnwick, Morpeth, Ashington and Red Row, a village that has a thriving multi-make car club which, I'm sure, must now have more members than there are people living there.I've been known to eat the odd pizza too, so Pegswood, Lynemouth, Ulgham and Widdrington could be postered up while I wait for my dinner to cook on takeaway nights. OK, so Ulgham doesn't have a food place, but it is home to a fair few shiteheads, bikers, Reliantists and owners of classic stuff.

Sorry i didnt see that you wanted a template :(but it looks like its going to be busy anyway, as we have been unindated with people booking in :)

so how many confirmed bookings?how many confirmed bookings are from specialists?

Posted

so, how busy?

how many stalls?

any confirmed stallholders for the next one Pandaselector?

Posted

^^^ How come you didnt go along then? You're clearly mega keen to know all about it.

Posted

i would of gone - but not paying 2.50 to get in a half-full car boot sale

and pandaselector was a little economical with his information

i notice on RR only 2 memebrs mention they went, and no-one says if it was busy or not, just how they got some cheap stuff

cheap stuff implies it was quiet, and not many sellers

Posted

I think you should have gone along and 'gambled' a whole £2.50 on entry, rather than repeatedly making snidey posts about his autojumble before its even got out the starting blocks. Then if it was a load of shite, you would have been qualified to say so.

Theres a tip there for autojumble organisers - make sure you big up how obscenely expensive stuff was at your sale, then folk will come flocking to the next one.

I went and yes, there were bargains, but the stallholders were delighted with the trade they did, some commenting that there were some stalls selling stuff that hadn't been seen before, even at Rufforth Park which is far and away the larger event.

Owners of early mini Coopers were delighted to find rare parts such as hubs, discs and calpiers as well as body parts for minis MK1-3.

Cortina parts were well represented too, with MK3 body panels including wings and various smaller repair sections.

I met Pandaselecta on my arrival there, many jumble regular punters commented on the venue too; it was ideal as all stalls were on hard standing and the car park was divided into the everyday modern stuff and another section for those who wished to park their older or otherwise more interesting cars together, giving the whole thing the atmosphere of a car-related meet.

It was well worth the £2.50 and I for one will be going again, this event can only grow into something quite special, IMHO.

Recommended! :D

Shame I always work weekend in the summer  I can always do with more cheap Cortina parts

some feedback

thank you

sounds like it would worth a trip to the next one then.

i thought maybe pandaselector might give some feedback after the event, hence the thread revival

He's a busy man, our Mr Selecta, so probably hasn't had the spare time to come back to his thread yet.

Kind of busy advertising the next one hence not being on here (contacted over 350 clubs now).

We had around 300 buyers, which for a first one is great (and means it wasnt quiet  )

Also, yes only 2 people on RR posted that they had gone, but i spotted a few familiar faces. Just because they havent posted on RR, doesnt mean they didnt go.

The next one is going to be bigger, we have a classic ice cream van, and the kiddies rides should be there :)

Oh, and it wasnt a 'half filled car boot sale' as only 1 seller had car boot related items, and those were things like model rally cars and steering wheel covers

Posted

Bargains of the day must have been the Cortina wings, the £2 chrome passenger mirror, and the £15 pair of blue spot lights

Posted

....the £15 pair of blue spot lights

Remind me mate, who bought those?:wink:

Bump for this as it opens its doors to the customers in 10 hours time :)

A little quieter than the last one, but still plenty of good stuff to be had (bagged a pair of Desmo Flyback wing mirrors for a nominal sum) and some new faces selling.

One stallholder was doing any of their Haynes manuals at £2, so I came away with some of the holes in my collection filled and some duplicates in better condition than existing copies, Mint condition Triumph 1300 & 1500 FWD (book 054) in mint condition was the one that gave me the biggest satisfaction buzz. :D

Posted

It was a little bit quieter wasnt it, Still managed to get a few bargains though :)

We have had a rethink about the charges too, so the next one which is on the 25th July, will be.........

Customers - £1.50 admission (kids still free)

All sellers - £12 (inside and out)

And the first 15 sellers get in for £6 each :o

Thinking about it, I have a theory regarding the slightly lower number of sellers there today; it was the C.A.M.P.S* classic car show over in Rothbury today (& yesterday), so that's probably why many sellers weren't at Kirkley.

I took a blast up there after having a word with you and that delightful young woman who's no way old enough to be your Mum  , managed to blag my way in as the show was well into its second day and guess what.... Jumblers were there in force. Here's hoping that the 25th of next Month doesn't clash with any of the big events.

My opinion, FWIW? Please view this as the constructive comment it's intended to be: I think that dropping the entry prices, although a good gesture, may be a tad premature if the only reason for today's lower numbers was the fact that so many of your potential punters were in Rothbury, getting sunburned and eating overpriced ice cream.

there is something on old car / bike or commercial every weekend in the summer months

if sellers dont make any cash - they wont come back - it's as simple as that

19th was scorton autojumble - bet that was busy

judging by the photos here

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AUTOJUMBLE-KIRKLE ... 0480793119

it was car boot sale than autojumble

Posted

Those eBay images weren't typical of the stalls at the venue, a shame as they could have influenced potential pitch holders.

The stalls there were all car and bike-related, though one or two did have a few new tools and accessories, but that in itself is hardly untypical of autojumbles.

Yes, there's something happening on most weekends, but many events don't have any jumble: Beamish, Souter Light, Wallsend Festival car show, Corbridge, Newburn, Druridge, Bents Park and Belsay to name but a few of those.

Here is an idea A5, try actually 'going' to an event before slagging it off
