Just been watching BBc's latest take on the maverick cop who gets the job done whilst not playing by the rules etc (My God why has this never been done before :shock: ) and couldn't help noticing the vehicles featured; A decent looking Scorpio frog eye with leather interior and presumably a cossie lump judging by the noise it made driven by the chief sidekick A supposedly 83/84 Ovlov 240 saloon driven by the title character though judging by the back lights I think it was a later model. A Saab 900 proved useful for afforementioned title character as something to spread eagle wifes new fella over whilst punching him repeatedly for oh, 4 seconds at least before he gets up without a mark on him. Intersting choice of 'different' cars for a new series, and a nice touch I thought, but then again I'll watch anything thats got vehicles over 10 years old in it, now where did I put my dvd boxset of Dempsey and Makepeace?

You beat me to it... weren't the police cars in that 'fight' scene a bit old too? At least the BMW looked a bit old - the first scene had a brand new Mitsubishi Evo police car & some SUVish thing.

So when was this supposed to be set?

There was also a yellow Mini [original style] at the scene of the crime. I thought it was pretty good tv.

On the subject of shite motors on telly, anyone watching the new series of The Prisoner? Total bollocks, and not a patch on the original, but the taxis are all Renault Dauphines!

As a fan of the wire and Idris Elba I gave this a go. I enjoyed it and was particularly pleased by the appearance of shite. I did think at the time 'must make a comment on Autoshite', but happily nothing gets past like minded fellow television detective shite spotters 8)

So when was this supposed to be set?

I'd say in the present.

I downloaded it from iPlayer to see the shite. I didn't expect to like it, and the wanky camera work before the opening credits didn't bode well, but I found myself quite enjoying it. I think the spread of car ages might be to blur the period a bit, rather than planting it firmly in 2010.

Re the Volvo tail lamps;

Yes, correct for an A plate car, in fact correct from '77 or maybe '78 on, right up to the end of production...

Have another look at the Saab if you saved the show to your PVR or watch on the iplayer. You'll see a dent that wasn't there when the car was first seen, outside the house, but was there after that McGann Brother had been pushed over the bonnet and given a ploating. :D

It was the poor dog I felt sorry for. :x
