barrett Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 After an abortive attempt on wednesday when I managed to leave all my means of payment at home, I picked it up last night. Looks like a good one, and D_Hirst's bit is obviously GR11. What I didn't realise, not having read it for yonks, is that the rust in peace section is curated by ''www.autoshite.com co-founder Richard Lawson'' who I guess is Electric Leyland. You should run some of the unidentified stuff past us EL, the 'hedgerow of horrors' cars (1) and (2) are a Riley Pathfinder and a Hillman Minx, and the Fiat-looking thing in Spain is a Seat 1400A Pick-up! (sorry for thread semi hi-jack, but this is IMPORTANT damnit!)
Milford Cubicle Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 Good work Hirst, I enjoyed Reading your piece.Am I the only one who thought the 205 looked a bit odd in the line up though?, you had a lovely early Renault 5, a tidy Golf and then a 'well used' 205 with rusty wheels and 150k on the clock, I would of thought that they would of found a better example to use?!.I like seeing well-used cars in magazines, the 'show queens' are boring.
Guest Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 That 205 looked nice to me, just wanted the wheels giving a quick sandpaper/wheel-silver session! Reminds me of the "body repair" section in a lot of Haynes books.

pogweasel Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 PC SCOOPRare pic of Hirst-san smiling.Could be wind of course...Hey Mash, I was reading an old issue of classic van & pick-up last night, did you write them a letter saying OMG TRANSITS R WEL CLASSIC* etc...? Or just someone with the same name. *In response to a letter the previous month OMG TRANSITS WIL NEVAR B CLASSIC
Mash Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 Possibly, can't remember the exact content...!I sent them a load of old pics of 60s and 70s vans I found at the vehicle body company I used to work for too and that got a nice write-up.
