Saw this wee event advertised in the section RR has for such things.

It was a mid week wheeze organised by some students from Stafford University for their Motorsports degree. It was £35 for the whole day and a great deal of tyre shredding action was had by all. Particularly the front wheel drive cars.

I wanted to take the Volvo for this, but had to settle for my C4 instead. I utterly destroyed what was left of the two GSD 3 F1s on the front. The timing was done on the flying laps started from the side entrance rather than the straight.

Word got out in a big way to the AlfaOwner forum, and it was this marque that attended en masse. Although raising for money, the organisers also had special guests in the form of the Doughnutters drift crew, who brought along a hot pink Sierra that spent the majority of the day pulling enormous slides.

There were sponsored runs in said Ford, and for £2 the Nutters' top driver Tom took me round the track in a highly creative fashion. Wedged tightly into the full race harness, Tom's commentary was drowned out my the manic rasp of the CVH being revved to valve bounce in second and third. The interior was gutted and the gravel trackside clattered beneath the shell as the Sierra was flung from side to side. Both front windows were down and the broadside rush of air was exhilarating.

There was no serious retro content, but a BBR Racing MX-5 was in attendence, smoking away like the Exxon Valdesz.

S2000 and drift Sierra queue up.

Sierra was as pink as it looked.

Stripped out Sierra included several modifications, such as full race seating and harnesses, a brake bias valve, a fly off handbrake and a welded diff that skittered under heavy braking.

Doughnutter's Sierra did this sort of thing all day. The 205 GTI Speedlines looked surprisingly good on it.

Bizarre cable tie \ Hello Kitty aesthetic on the Doughnutters' Sierra.

F16 lump beneath the bonnet a very tidy Clio 16v.

Clio 16v was quick on the few laps it completed.

Quick VTR Saxo was lowered by 40mm and sported a quartet of R888s. It placed third after the turbo MX5 and FAF S2000.

Saxo VTR doing a remarkable tripod impression.

The 147 GTA in the picture disappeared early on in the afternoon. Its owner had come down from Sheffield, destroyed the front tyres in the morning and disappeared to get them sorted out before his wife realised he'd taken the car for a brief drive. Hell hath no fury like a Kwik Fit spurned.

V6 156 lunges for the apex.......

......and exits, its tyres ablaze.

Intake pipes of the V6 Alfa still shining manfully despite the hammering meted out.

V6 Alfa pair. At one point the 156 lost its brakes on the straight.

BBR MX5 engine bay. Not a 1800 as I first thought, but a 1.6.

MX5 smoked heavily all the way round because of a knackered set of piston rings.

Posted Image

Despite smoking at full chat, the BBR MX5 was well tied down and posted the second fastest time after the S2000.

Lovely AW11 MR2 didn't compete, which was a shame.

Posted Image

Timing was done in an old trailer, and was the epitome of precision. My best lap was a pitiful 33.2 seconds.

Posted Image

Lovely Polo GT sported a G40 conversion.

Posted Image

Red flag meant the end of your run.

Posted Image

S2000 did this a lot.

Posted Image

S2000 got more and more out of shape as its tyres deteriorated.

Sierra wore its Curburgring sticker with pride.

Trophy cabinet was highly inventive, and much coveted.

We need to support this event, and get more retros out there next year!I'd also like to extend my thanks to Dee and his crew for a fantastic day out, great hospitality, and a wonderful atmosphere.
