Citroen AX - Any good??

That nearside rear looks to be doing the usual Peugeot rear axle thing - and the other side looks as if it's going the same way...

Thanks for the response, chaps. You're all old enough and ugly enough to drive what you want, how you want, when you want and where you want. What I said was that I wouldn't want someone I cared about, like a son, screaming round in one. As none of you is (as far as I'm aware) my son, or indeed anyone I know well enough to care about, the somewhat ponderous humour hasn't really altered my opinion.Hope this helps.Meh.

I learned to drive in an AX - and a Pug 106 (which is basically the same- so 2 AXs?) I was one of the lucky ones - I survived. As an aside, I wonder what the alternative to an AX/106 would have been - and what advantage they would actually offer.

...acquisition of a sense of humour...I don't think a 106 is made in the same way as an AX but....meh

Ohh another valid point...People of all ages and cultures respond to humour. The majority of people are able to experience humour, i.e., to be amused, to laugh or smile at something funny, and thus they are considered to have a sense of humour. The hypothetical person lacking a sense of humour would likely find the behaviour induced by humour to be inexplicable, strange, or even irrational. Though ultimately decided by personal taste, the extent to which an individual will find something humorous depends upon a host of variables, including geographical location, culture, maturity, level of education, intelligence and context. For example, young children may favour slapstick, such as Punch and Judy puppet shows or cartoons such as Tom and Jerry. Satire may rely more on understanding the target of the humour and thus tends to appeal to more mature audiences. Nonsatirical humour can be specifically termed "recreational drollery".(from wikipedia)guess I must qualify as an EPIC FAIL then............

I nearly died yesterday ... and i was not in an AX  Infact my newly passed friend, decided he would take his dad's Fiesta out for a run, so off we all went.... afew minutes later this new driver begins to talk to a rear passenger.. i noticed he was not braking for an on coming cross road, but being a clever friend (he is not one to loone around) ... i thought "ooh maybe he is just going to brake bit late ... )NOT A CHANCE !Shot straight throught the cross road !He noticed half way through, slammed on but carried on waaay past.I shat many a brick, and was dropped off at home.Moral of the story ...No matter how clever or not stupid the driver isNo matter what they are driving If they don't concentrate, you are naffed !/ No AX's where harmed in the pants filling experience \

Not sure, thought it was common knowledge? I was expecting a reply about 'how' AXs and 106s are made and what other small car is better and why - none of this has been addressed (none of my previous questions have been) I still don't think they're absolutely worse than any other small car. Doesn't matter what yer driving - if you have a big 'off' you're gonna get hurt in anything small. Stop picking on Citroens!!

:( Sorry i just wanted to share my story with you all

Aww, I read it!

AX = pop rivets106 = self tappers/cable ties

Ahhh haa! doesn't that make the ax stronger?

I doubt size has any bearing on the outcome, big or small if it's your time...it's your time.

Well from my experience, the larger vehicle just leaves more room for you to be thrown around in, now I agree it depends on the circumstances of the impact, but size alone is less of a factor than say speed, angle of impact, object that is hit or hits you etc....If we take as an example a Smart car, small, but up to today's safety standards. and on the other hand we take say a vauxhall Victor 101, considerably larger, but would it be safer in an accident? that would depend on the type of accident I would suspect...In my opinion, the so callled safer cars of today are not necesserally safer overall, but may be safer under certain circumstances, which is why the ongoing premiss of this thread that by design and age the AX is dangerous is a very limited, modernistic, hype driven veiw point

And I totally agree with everything there! phew!Thing about the Smart car is that the high speed impact demonstrated on TG (think?) showed how rigid it certainly is but that there was no absorption of the kinetic energy - it cam to a major halt so good old Newton's second law of motion did its work on the test dummy to the MAX!!! So instead of the usual bits of A pillar chopping your legs off and windscreen through the head, you just get your neck broken.Mind you, maybe that's better! after being spazzy enough to drive straight into a barrier at 60 you'd never live it down!

I cant believe this thread has coughed and spluttered to 8 pages in length of utter meaningless blather, its the fucking pits. I would say its as poor as any one-make forum effort. If anyone knows any decent car forums which dont have threads in like this can they let me know so I can join.

You just made it longer.Shite! so did IWho actually cares if there's a 'bad' thread? Is forum space at a premium? Don't think so - though I do want to know why the pic in my signiture is so hoooooge - it also varies in size. Oddness

Hey youre right JJ, lets fill the whole fuggin lot up with inane childish dross, just like every other car forum out there. Might as well eh? Doesnt cost owt.

I do. And I'm not alone in that. No space isn't at a premium but this is Autoshite - it's about enjoying old, generally unloved cars not bickering about how safe or not a twenty year old hatchback is or isn't. Thats what Whatcar / Autocar have forums for.

Point taken! but my posts on here were meant to be constructive. Right! I just missed getting a photo of a murky yellow Vauxhall Carlton Mk1 - old boy spec. this car is my elusive one - I've seen it about 10 times and am never ready to get a pic - it's worth it I say!Need to be on guard for it..

Me too. If I wanted to be reminded about how depressing car crashes are, I'd read elsewhere.

Can i therefore suggest we have some sort of shitecap safety rating system........im sure some scrappage scheme px fodder could be used to test this and i do have a tree in my back garden that they could be smacked in to as well.............

Bonkers innit, Autoshite used to be one of the few places where the most popular thread wasn't some kind of argument. I hope the rot isn't starting to set in.What we need here is a concerted effort to show off some decent content, even just some lousy report about someone tidying up the front valance on a Princess would keep me entertained for a bit. Get some scanning done, go do some spots. I've got some brochure stuff coming up soon, that'll be good maybe.
