pompei Posted March 20, 2010 Posted March 20, 2010 That article about the turbo 2CV reminded me of something I read years ago about some kind of home made turbo using a vacuum cleaner. Am I going mad, or did someone really make one?

Anything that can make a teeny weeny bit of pressure to the inlet, any fan will do I suppose.Although a Turbocharger to me suggests it's connected to the exhaust manifold..... vacuum cleaner components? Hot exhaust gases? Not for me!
Des Posted March 20, 2010 Posted March 20, 2010 Many years ago some guy came a cropper while hoovering his car, sucking up dirt around the petrol filler, hoover gets a nice fill of flammable vapour and woof, most intense space heater of evar!Would be easy to try out a hoover blower if your game, as no problem powering it off an inverter, if you can find a Hoover Constellation from the seventies, their outlet had the fitting for the hose.Reminds me, can't remember where but I saw an ad for a car with a messy engine upgrade not long ago, engine was so big the radiator had to be relocated to the boot, I was having a look at the pics and noticed an electric water pump setup, or rather a central heating pump running off a fag lighter inverter.
AXrescuer Posted March 21, 2010 Posted March 21, 2010 Obviously never met my ex then?Funny how times change. These days that ad would mean that their products are crap!
Station Posted March 21, 2010 Posted March 21, 2010 There's a vid on youtube of a car on a dyno, where they use a leaf blower and it actually increases power on the dynometer.
