grizz Posted April 1 Author Posted April 1 Design. Not as easy as just turning over a new page. Not just a matter of tossing a cup or bucket of paint at or over the car. And for me at least, it doesn’t come easy all the time. This last week I was struggling with “writers block” trying to create designs that would continue the theme for the car. One of my favourite stencils is the hexagonal one that I used on the trunk/boot lid. But it was not fit for purpose. So I spent quite a bit of time modifying it in a way that it would be useable. I had also bought a load of stencils from “The Range” in their hobby section. Plan is to try cut some of them up, modify some and see of they bring some creativity. There are things that influence the outcome, including human error. So I have discovered masking, striping errors even with the paint in hand. This week I was painting, only to realise that I had not masked an adjacent panel. Much swearing and a small prayer, followed by a panel wipe down with thinners, hoping it would not disturb existing masking or paint. Stencils including the hexagon before and after. . 666jjp 1

grizz Posted April 1 Author Posted April 1 Another thing that I have noticed….. How much paint I have flung at this car. Despite being reasonably ( debatable ) sensible or frugal ( OK, I lost control ) I already have possibly just over £500.00 into paint, rattle cans and 7.5 liters of clear lacquer. Obviously I cannot walk away from this project ( Mission creep ? ) It’s pushing up the total cost of the car up all the time. Value ?? I have obviously bought the silver to create a base to work on. In the meantime I have bought a liter of Pearl blue metallic for the bottom third including the rubbing strips and bumpers. This week on Monday I have also added a liter of some gorgeous Gold paint. I am hoping to use some Gold today. Yesterday I also used a lovely metallic colour called Stratosphere. . MrBig 1
MrBig Posted April 1 Posted April 1 Still following here. No input from me because I have the creative skills of a cheese sandwich. And worse painting skills. I'm just here watching the vision unfold into reality. It's looking great so far, and even at £500 you're still a long way off the cost having a pro paint in one single colour, and where's the fun in that! Using thumbnails as a swatch... genius! Also, that yellow is fantastic. I'd do that on your index fingers 😁 grizz 1

93fxdl Posted April 1 Posted April 1 Don't beat yourself up, remember, the sistine chapel wasn't that Italian painters first job.. You've thrown yourself in at the deep end, maybe try something small, get a few wins under your belt, possibly give the mini bike a makeover, change is as good as a rest, supposedly. You are taking inspiration from work that has been done by professionals with years of experience stop beating yourself up if it doesn't work the first time, or fifth or even twenty fifth, settle back take the learning as a win and move forward, just as long as it doesn't become a chore Remember,if you're not having fun you're doing it wrong Quote stolen from one of my favourite YouTube channels Ttfn Glenn eddyramrod and grizz 2

grizz Posted April 2 Author Posted April 2 Starting on the bonnet/hood. I bought quite a few stencils There are things that would work in your head. Of course my head doesn’t always work in a conventional way. So much laying out, moving around and walking back and forth, coffees and returning to look again. You can repaint over and over till you get what you want. I have actually done up to 5 coats in places. . 666jjp and jon.k 2
grizz Posted April 2 Author Posted April 2 I actually hit write mrs block with the bonnets panel design for a few days. Mentioned before. So getting to decide a colour, and what to add to what panel was interesting. Signal red. Modified Hexagon stencil. Much masking up and eventually. Paint. I added some of the cutouts from the original stencil to create a slightly different look. Probably lost on the majority of people. . Westbay, MrBig, FakeConcern and 1 other 4
93fxdl Posted April 2 Posted April 2 Could it be , your trying too hard, attempting to cram too many patterns into the space, making it overcrowded, possibly try less but larger panels maybe even use wide partitions with lace paint, then reduce the size of the high impact areas An alternative idea, go for the classic low rider stripe type design but using multiple colours and fades for the stripes What do I know, art never was my thing Ttfn Glenn grizz 1
grizz Posted April 2 Author Posted April 2 Next panel. Could the colours represent Spain, lowrider culture? Dunno….. Here we go. . delux, FakeConcern, jim89 and 3 others 6
Westbay Posted April 3 Posted April 3 Like the hexagons, not sure about the flowers (perhaps more 'random within the boundaries ?) and the crinkly paper look needs more work ...😇 grizz 1

grizz Posted April 3 Author Posted April 3 Two steps forward and Three steps back. Next panel was a bit of a challenge. I bet 85% of you have no real clue on Oldsmobile logos and ambitions. See evolution of logos below. So I tried to figure a way to incorporate or honour the flight, wings, whatever you want to call it……. And failed. Dismally. Created a large, 800mm stencil to mimic a wing and feathers in flight. I think it came out perfectly As an example of what not to do here. Mate @PaulY messaged me from his deathbed saying something about reinventing the wheel. I told him his fever was clearly high because this was a wing, not wheel. And boy, how we laughed. I also did some practice runs that resemble a pineapple crown. Adding the blue base to the hood/bonnet, I had to add a section of railway line to hold it down so that the lines would all be on the same level. The hood cannot close fully because of the old sheets and masking inside the engine bay. Whatcha think so far? . delux 1
grizz Posted April 3 Author Posted April 3 Shite weather. So watching David Freiburger on YouTube. George waiting for more treats. Fool. .

grizz Posted April 3 Author Posted April 3 Today Margaret…… We break out the Blue Pearl. No idea what the result may end up being. Fingers crossed we don’t go down in flames. Like Icarus. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 .
grizz Posted April 4 Author Posted April 4 Lack of reaction to the blue paint….., Could it be Easter absences of the usual suspects? Shocked out of your religion? Waiting to see what next Try as I might, the wings or nod to the Oldsmobile logo just didn’t get to take off. So in chatting with @PaulY he suggested keeping to traditional methods and not trying to reinvent the wheel. Of course we know where we would be if we hadn’t invented the wheel. So I went back to another of my favourite stencils and added some very traditional fish scales. Using a colour called Stratosphere, the metallic is dark and broody, however, put it in the sunlight and it spring to life. The drop off onto the grille was initially done in part, but it reminded me of a comb or rainbow. So I filled the bottom of it up as well in Stratosphere. Better. This to me was quite a relief as I was struggling to het these panels filled with designs that contradicted each other but would form part of my vision. More later if you guys get back 😉 .
