If Autoshite did heavy engineering

Great site that, thanks for the link. The main production line captures the essence of Autoshite engineering and organisation at its finest; no conveyor belt here, just an old Atki gently trundling down the shop:

Thats fantastic !I love old machinery like that Is it weird that i want a Bridgeport Series 1, 2hp Milling Lathe ?Great site, and thanks for sharing :)

It is if you've no real use for it. What would you do? Spend Sunday mornings milling purely for the enjoyment of it? :)

I've seen that before but its just fantastic.

"Once upon a time we actually made things here. Big things."

Its not just the things being made but the incredible size (and accuracy) of the machines they're mounted on.

This pillar drill for instance.

Yes  Sad isn't it ?

Not at all Minimad. When you've got machines you then wonder how the hell you managed without them and find all sorts of things to make. :D

H&S gear is noticably absent in those photos. What a refreshing sight.

I love stuff like this! I didnt do awfully well in Engineering in school, but I always loved using the Lathes. Yeh, Id like one too please. For what reason? Just to start it up and nod gently to the sound of it.

I bought myself a lathe last year and it's been mega useful so far. Most recently I used it to to make some new hinge pins and brass bushes for the door hinges on my van. Now I want to get a bigger lathe but I'm a bit limited on space. If I had the room I'd have a mill too. The one I have is a Halifax from the late 40's I think....

I worked here briefly: http://www.brush.eu/index.html

Real old school engineering, they have some serious kit, including a huge Skoda lathe for machining the rotor cores...

That looks nice Ratdat. I bought one of the cheap import Lathe/Mill combos to do a work project a couple of years ago - I haven't got space for separate machines and needed both functions. "Good" old lathes alone are not cheap. It did what I needed it too and has done a lot more since. Most of my lathe work is at the other end of the scale from those ship machines though and involves a binocular microscope.
