It doesn't look too bad, also I can't see how somebody else's insurance company can write off your car, so I wouldn't worry about that either. Get it sorted, and get back to enjoying your capper.

From what the insurance lady said earlier it sounds like i'll end up with cash in lieu of repair, just have to hope i get a decent amount! Off to see the claim assessor at 3 tomorrow, stopping in at spray bay on the way for a quote too. Fingers crossed eh!

all this dent expertry is interesting. I need to assess how much it's going to cost to straighten the door on 'Er Indoors Focus after it interfaced a wall during a recent windy spell.

Yes, some twat in a hat and a BMX bike scraped the side of the Zafira yesterday with his silly wanky sticky out footpeg things. It has left a slight crease in the door. Do I live with it or would it be repairable without having to reskin the door?

Urr, can't you find the child's parent(s)?

As for the Capri wing situation - see what the insurance say and I can support what has been said: get at least 2 current adverts for similar cars and of appropriate asking price say £1400 - £1600 or whatever and if it's a 'Cat C' write off then the insurance Co. have declared it 'repairable but at too much cost" so will send an inspector to assess it. It is to this person you discuss the value and show the adverts to. This is what I did with my rear ended GSA 4 years ago and I actually 'made' money on it: he offered £800 for it (it cost me £600) and was £100 to 'buy the car back for repair' so I did and was therefore technically £100 up.

Also, you have the right to have your car repaired 'to the self same condition as it was in prior to the accident' so if it's repaired and you reckon the job isn't up to scratch (paint match etc) you can take it to the insurance company and debate a further job until you're satisfied it's as good as before.

Also, and this is something advised to me, you should do the claim through 'your' ins company apparently (i.e. not the other party's) as that way you're only dealing with your company in correspondance. But I am not 100% about that last bit.

It dosn't matter if you are dealing with your insurance or a third parties - they are technically agreeing to buy the car off you so they can chose what they want to do with the salvage and yes they can write it off. Of course as you dont have a contract with the said insurance company you will have the option to purchase it back providing it's a C or a D. But they can and do write thirdparty cars off..

Few questions there so here goes point one There is never £1400 in repairs however if you take it somewhere and they quote for new wing blend everything etc etc then yes i can see that happening then your left with a car that has total loss marker. How many times do we see it on this site people going 'thats never a write off I could knock that wing out with my knob end' etc etc .. be fair at what you want and the engineer will be fair back - point two only if you have the car repaired by the approved repairer, if you use your repairer the insurers cannot control the quality of repairs. If the approved repairer do it and make a hash of it then yes you have comeback. But the onus falls on the owner to trust the repairer he wants. he's already been given the option to which Mike refused (rightly so in this instance) point three You have more comeback and more advantage over discussions if you use your own insurance that is providing you have fully comp cover however you will have to pay the XS first and then claim that back later. So yes it can be advantagous to do this but in the same breath so can claiming off the TP especially if they are a well known company - some of the lloyds companies etc wont give a stuff anyway..
