I picked up some new shite yesterday, after a fairly incident free trip across from Herts to Gloucestershire.

Its a 1990 216 Sli that's a right old "bitza": 216 Gti twin cam engine, 214 Sei leather interior, a dash from an auto 216 complete with gear indicator, HHR steering wheel.

It's got it's problems. The drivers front wheel looks like it's rotating around a square axle when it drives, the fuel tank leaks and it looks like the engine mount on the drivers side needs a bolt or two putting in

Still, it's rust free and only cost £100 and a tank of LPG. If it only takes a second hand fuel tank and a new driveshaft I'll be chuffed but I reckon it might need a bit more to sort the square axle effect.

Any thought, fellow shiters?

Nice, could the square axle be a square wheel from standing?

Never heard of a square axle before. Can you file the corners off it and make it round again?I love those twin cam honda engines, if this car has been well enough screwed together it'll be a big fat tub of WIN.

I don't think it's a square tyre, it visibly moves jerkily even at walking pace. I suppose worst case scenario is change the whole of the suspension arms, hub and driveshaft just to make sure everything is right. Looking forward to getting it fixed though, they are fun to drive as Bol says. Everything looks well screwed together apart from the engine not being screwed in properly...

I stuck a set of those alloys on my CRX. Be prepared to spend 4 and a half hours cleaning each one.

I had a similar design on my Metro GTa and you're right, they were a complete ball ache to keep clean properly. I mostly didn't bother after a while, and just used to pressure wash them instead. The ones on the Rover seem to have survived rather well. I wouldn't be surprised if they have been restored at some point.
