VWPowered Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 excuse one's excitement but must say i'm rather chuffed, my scirocco since i've had it had to be frank been a bag of nails, but a nice man came over and reset the carb and it drives a dream, need to wang it through a CT (as if we move i'd like to take it with me) and i'm back rocco'ing again so put the passat steelies back on (polo alloys wont clear the brake calipers), and rear plate re-attached, tidied the mess inside, gave it a quick run up and down the road, brakes are abit iffy but a clean up of the front discs and pads should sort that i've now had the car on/off for three years and its not even racked up 100 miles, but now hopefully it'll be worthy of cruising in style..
Richard Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 What's the deal with running UK registered vehicles in France? Can you get a CT and drive it on those plates or will it need French ones?
VWPowered Posted February 10, 2010 Author Posted February 10, 2010 no, the new eu laws mean that it can stay on uk plates but has to conform to french ct standards, insurance is the same they will insure it, but sure as hell they'll fight it should you have a shunt realistic it should be on french plates after 6 months but i've seen many a UK reg car here without a CT sticker or owt and checked the dvla website to find its not ha=d tax in 6 years.. does that means its been here for 6 years with no CT :omines been here since 2003 and its didnt have anything on it, but now happy to put it in and get it legit, which is more than the previous owner did
Pillock Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 Then just suppose, for a moment, that "someone" had the opposite - a French registered car in the UK. Can it be driven by a UK resident person on the French plates? Would it need road tax?
VWPowered Posted February 10, 2010 Author Posted February 10, 2010 depending on uk law if the vehicle is in the uk after six months then it needs UK plates, but yes a french vehicle with CT/assurance should be ok in the uk for some time, but once CT has expired etc you'd defo need to tax/mot it to use it...i dont know if you can legally MOT a french plated vehicle as its all computer held info??
Pete-M Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 When I spoke to the Doovla regarding bringing my Escort to the UK the bloke told me that if I'm a UK resident and the car is on Czech plates then it needs to be re-registered as soon as it is in the UK.If I'm living in Czech, then it can be driven here for I think it's a year before needing UK registration. It's insane, but I'm beginning to think the easiest way to deal with it is to register the car on export plates from Germany and then re-register it here. Or just sell it in Germany.
Rocket88 Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 I know someone who ran a knackered old Metro in London for SEVEN years on Jersey plates, and never got pulled.
