retrogeezer Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Can't remember if I posted this or not, shocking photos of pollution from factories in China: http://www.chinahush.com/2009/10/21/ama ... -in-china/
FredTransit Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Oh yes, you can see why driving an electric car will make all the difference now.
VWPowered Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 soz i saw this and instantly thought 'wanna smell ya misses' but yes on a serious note the country needs to sort itself or it'll end up all as baron land its not really the people if demand is there then its there its the government that need to be stricter, but as a dominant country famed for its global succession of cheap this and tat, will the government ever listen..
Milford Cubicle Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 We could stop buying cheap goods from China, that'd do the trick.
Mr Lobster Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 China? Looks a bit like 1950's Bradford to me...But as MilfCub says, we demand, they supply. If we (as in 'the West') didn't have an insatiable appetite for cheap tat then they wouldn't be producing it.
Ratdat Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 If we actually still made stuff here we'd have a choice but corporation like money and making things in China allows them to have more of it. Sadly I think for a lot of companies, there was no longer a choice about relocating production. They had to to remain competetive. As usual with a lot of the worlds ills, the greedy few make things shit for everyone else.To be fair, I'm sure most of the western world has done more than it's fair share of polluting as their economies grew to where they are today. It's easy to be self righteous about what other countries do when we already enjoy the high standard of living they are striving for. Not that this makes it right but until China reaches a state of development equivent with the west, I doubt they'll have much joy even trying to police all the zillions of companies puring stinky shite into rivers all over China.
FredTransit Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Whatever the tat is, must be blindly cheap to ship it half way round the world. I never understood how it's cheaper to buy socks or whatever from China than it is to buy them from Bradford. I love the way the environmental damage is conveniently forgotten over when it makes a multinational company a few more quid. not to mention the fact we no longer have any kind of manufacturing industry any more, so we don't actually have the choice any more!

China are doing the same, just 150 years later. We have no right to criticise them, especially while we are still buying their cheap goods and paying them to burn our waste so we can say our carbon footprint is dropping.

pogweasel Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Exactly.Think about what this country would have been like during our industrial revolution. China are doing the same, just 150 years later. But on a scale many thousands of times larger. That's where the problem lies.
RedSparrow Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 The USA use something like 70% of the worlds natural resources and have overtaken China as the biggest polluter in the world.
