Thought this might be of interest. Ive had this knocking round my book collection - Pure budget shite! Took a few scans of the best/worse... depending how you look at it. But there is plenty more 8)

BTW - look out for the famous name on the Suzuki Advert - Yes, it is that one! The one who was innocent, yet happened to have a lot of the money stashed in his garden etc etc

Sorry but I would go with the Horizon :)

Charmant could be passed in the street without a second glance such is its blandness but it performs well with no major faults.

Hirst, you know how I mentioned generic car designs elsewhere yesterday

They really didn't like the Reliant, did they? Then again, it's hard to see why you would buy one new when you could get a Fiat Panda for less.

Great Post Alex, I enjoyed reading that. :D I remember another Yugo advert entitled "NO MORE MOT WORRIES", pitched squarely at owners of old nackers.

I had no idea who that was, but a quick google solved that, it was a lot of money 8)

wow awesome scan, i'm gonna go against my normal grain and go for the samba (and the metro)

Awesome! Two generations of Charade in one ad... I guess the newer 3-door co-existed with the old 5-door for a while?

Glad you enjoyed it people. I'll scan some more as there are tons of cars covered and lots of old local dealer ads. Let me know of any cheap 1984 cars you want to see

Fantastic piece! The FSO articles summed the cars up perfectly, although from personal experience the economy's not as bad as they stated it to be. The Reliant piece was pretty damming, wasn't it? In some respects one DOES wonder how a plastic 3 wheeled vehicle, costing more than a decent metal 4 wheeled one made it into the 1990's, let alone survived until 2000! Better be careful-I owned one for 2 years and regularly had 60-70 mpg from it!A great read and glad I'm on a day off today and can enjoy it, without rushing through it-thanks!

I wouldn't take their opinion too seriously, they tested a "Diahatsu" Charmant, whatever one of those is.

LOL @ Diahatsu. When I worked in the motor factors 20 years ago, we had a "spelling challenged" bloke who worked with us. He was regularly defeated by Daihatsu, Mitsubishi, Zaporozhets (yes we stocked for them!) and the word "Maestro". He almost shat himself when we began to stock Nishiabasabu motorcycle electrical components.
