Holy thread etc

Been looking through an old newspaper (the Warley News Telephone) from the nu_Mrs Grogee's birth, (actually 2 days after with her birth announcement in it) 6th August 1970.

Some great period shite going on here.

Interesting!

Corsair featured in one Ford dealer's advert just a couple of months before it was replaced by the Mark 3 Cortina.

The other Ford dealer focusing on the Capri 1300. Why the bottom of the range 1300 specifically? It would make more sense if they quoted the price.

Tyres from 68/6 = £3.43.  Last days of pre-decimal currency and the strangely common practice of quoting prices in just shillings and pence even when over £1 (= 20 shillings).

Yeah it's weird they thought to trumpet the Capri 1300. Either tell them the entry price or show off the Essex V6 version!

I see remoulds were a thing before Lucky Speed Chinese tyres came along. It's weird to think everything around you was locally(ish) manufactured. People sneered at Made in Japan but it's revered these days compared to China.

At least they only claimed “sports car handling”, not performance, although that’s a joke if they handled like Cortinas. ( I’ve never driven a Capri. Fiesta, Escort, Orion, Cortina 3,4,5, Granada, Sierra , Mondeo , Maverick , Mustang and Focus yes.)
