I might have an interested buyer for the self-tapper special, unfortunately he's in Australia. What's involved in exporting, bearing in mind the car isn't complete or secure? Has anyone used a good shipping agency?Ta in advance :)

Autralia is a nightmare because of their strict quarantine controls. The vehicle will need to be thoroughly steam cleaned to remove all traces of soil, leaves etc. If the car has a valid V5 you will need to surrender to the DVLA informing them of the intended export and the will his an export certificate (basically a trimmed down V5) and then the reg no will go back into the pot, this document must be sent sent to the new owner as they will need it to import it. You will also need to create an invoice of some sort showing shipper & consignee along with description and identifying marks (VIN, Reg No etc) and price. The shipping line may want this info as quite a few now check to see if a vehicle is stolen or has outstanding finance etc.As far as the shipping goes there are several ways it can be done.1. Ro-Ro (roll on-roll off) if the car is driveable2. 20ft container by itself3. Groupage service, where it will go as part of a container with other cargoThe most secure is obviously number 2 as once loaded the container will be sealed and not broken until consignee receives or customs wish to inspectThe easiest is probably option 1, if the car is driveable. It doesn't have to be roadworthy just driveable.Google Lloyd's loading list for shipping companys. The above is the correct way but you can shortcut a lot of the above but it can cause problems for the consignee on arrival/clearance.Bet you can't guess what I did for a living until redundancy in Oct last year!

Hmmm, from your expertise in the answer I'd say you were probably a smuggler :D
