Arranging Temp Accomidation

I hope to attend a two week trial for the dream of all jobs but it means relocating from Manchester to Hemel (about 30 miles north of London).Any ideas what I could do accomidation wise ? Long term, house share seems obvious but I'm unsure what to do for the trial period. I don't anticipate any problems during the trial period but I don't fancy committing to a long term tennancey without knowing how things were to pan out.Presumeably any kind of hotel/motel/whatever would be too expensive over two weeks ?Also, has anyone experience of arranging houseshare over distance ie; without prior viewings ?Thanks!

Depending how far in advance it is, some of the Travel Lodge / Premier Inns have some good deals - about £29 a night. I know it ain't that cheap but can't think of many cheaper solutions for very short term accomodation unless theres a shiteist in the area who fancies a lodger for a week or two :D

You might be surprised. I read a story last year about a couple from Sheffield or some such place who rented out their flat and lived full time in a Travelodge next to a Little Chef. They reckoned it was so much cheaper doing this as they would go on line a couple of months in advance and book their room at ultra cheap discounted rates. :D They eventually had the room named in their honour by the management.Obviously a lot will depend how much advance notice you can give but it is well worth taking a look to see if you can sort out something especially at this time of year when occupancy rates are traditionally low. :)

If you traavel into Borehamwood there are lots of rooms to let on all the shop windows, about £90 per week for a double room with all bills paid  failing that I may, repeat may be able to put you in touch with a friend who would rent you a room for a few weeks :)

Premier Inn can be cheap, I use them alot, more than 2 nights in non-city locations for £29 a night, BUT they'll sting you HARD for 'extras', breakfast is £8, then if you eat the reconstituted turd dished up in an attached Beefeater you will feel violated. And their charges for net connection are a total joke. A friend of mine has a 4 bedroom house in north london, less than half an hour up to hemel, with several rooms vacant (weak £ means his migrant compatriates who were there have gone home), I can ask for you if you like?

Yeah, sure. I'm guessing it mya be pricey (ie; > £3-350pcm) if it's actually in London though ?

Imagine turning up to work on the first day in that. Break down in the entrance, block everyone out, muck around in the engine, get 10 members of staff to give you a push start, get it started and smother everyone in soot from the exhaust, and then walk through the door 2 hours late covered in greasey oil

I'd deffo buy a cheapo Transit/Sherpa shite converted motorhome until I could find accomodation. Join a gym and use their showers everynight (will give you somethng to do in the evening). ;)

^ How Les Oakes got away with his large-scale tat storage I’ll never know. The same Authority denied me planning permission to build accommodation barely bigger than that Daimler. Not that I’m bitter of course

Check for campsites nearby, honestly. some will have statics availiable, i'm sure, and having lived from Feb - Oct in Calais in a tent, it is do-able, (£20 a week for the pitch, £5 for leccy - electric heaters are your freind)...

^^^^^^ What he said. Did it in Devon for 4 months back in the early 90's when I as working on a contract in Exeter. Tremendous fun, cheap and really cool 'neighbours'.

Hemel's about 15 miles north of where I live (Barnet, next to Borehamwood) and I'll be there on Monday, recovering a Rover 216 (but that's another story!) If you're on the lookout for accommodation in Barnet pm me & I'll send you the details from the local newsagents, if it'd help.

I've got an ad on a houseshare website that looks promising. No way I'm camping. Other than when I'm pissed up at car shows and it's a laugh I hate camping.
