Got a 1.4 clio Auto for the evil one a few months ago off the bay as her Astra disolved after 20 years on the road.....she does the daily run to school wiv the kids about 5 miles and she has started to complain that it gets thru juice like its going out of fashon, lot more than the 1.6 Astra, I thought its cos she must have been sitting with the engine running and the heater on full blast whilst waiting outside the school but she said not, Anyway I took it out yesterday to see how it handled in the snow, (brill by the way) put 10 quid of juice in which took it to 1/4 tank and did about 22 miles and its just on the R now so that equates to about 20mpg.It starts, stops drives perfect and I can't smell any fuel or see any leakage in the snow under the car, I get about 35 in my 1.4 Xsara though its a manual anyone got any tips/known faults on these Clio's.When I had the exhaust fitted to my Xsara I asked the mechanic about Clio's and he said they are crap and a lot of people get rid, (GREAT)

Will be a sensor somewhere, usually:a) Lambda/Oxygen sensor in the exhaust manifold,B) Coolant temperature sensor.c) Air Flow MeterCould also be a blockage in the catalytic converter. Try changing the coolant as well. Bloody modern cars.I bet you were wholly fulfilled by this snippet of infinitely helpful advice from your local mechanic.

I think his mechanic gave the best advice there is."Don't buy a Clio" is the same advice you'll get from the majority of mechanics around the world.

What year is it??I know Renault very well as i,ve worked for them for 20 years, but must say you have more than one problemmthe other problem is AUTO........oxygen sensor or coolant temp sensor can be a problem, but not hugely common, the word auto is the main worry, they are crap boxes and anyone is on borrowed time.

Its a 98 R reg, i think its one of the very last mk1s as I say it drives fine and just passed its mot so I don't think it could be emmissions however I did not get it mot'd the guy who sold it to the Evil one did....Nuf said. The Auto box works a lot better than the Astriod one did but its not fast off the mark , the 1.6 Astroid flew, I would not have thought 200cc would make that much difference. The leccy windows are slow to go back up and the sunroof is clear mastic sealed shut. only got 34k on the clock proven miles. The front seems a bit rattly, wonder if the subframe needs new mounts, guy in garage said its usualy the anti roll bar mounts and these are right twonks to replace. Thanks for your advice so far chaps & chapettes

My brother has a Clio 1.2 of this vintage which is supposedly going for an MOT next week (note the word 'supposed'). It'll be interesting to see if it passes... :?
