FredTransit Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 A mate of mine heard about a Mk5 P100 that would be up for sale cheap. It was tested, but not taxed. After a couple of calls, he found out that the owner had PAID £35 to have it taken away as his wife was giving him earache about it. Words fail me. Another one gone.......
whitevanman Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 there are nowhere near enough P100 left in either shape
FredTransit Posted January 9, 2010 Author Posted January 9, 2010 All is not lost, I have heard of a Mk4, so getting on the case of that.
whitevanman Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 All is not lost, I have heard of a Mk4, so getting on the case of that.they are both mk5's one will be a low roof the other was a highroof
FredTransit Posted January 9, 2010 Author Posted January 9, 2010 I am told there is a Mk4 (I wasn't sure) by a man that knows! They all came in from South Africa, Mk4 and Mk5. The early ones had the 1.6 crossflow!
whitevanman Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 Nah.....All P100 Cortinas are from SAthey went from the MK3 shaped Bakkie to the 80 model low roof then in 86/87 they went to the hi roof, different doors, windscreen and a fair few other bits
FredTransit Posted January 9, 2010 Author Posted January 9, 2010 They all came in from South Africa, Mk4 and Mk5. The early ones had the 1.6 crossflow!that's what I said, they all came from SA. Do the early ones have saloon doors then, as opposed to (almost) estate doors?
whitevanman Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 as best as I remember the Mk3 shape had 2.5 or 3.0 V6's and the P100's came with 1600 pinto in Europe and a 2.0 pinto or V6 in SA....I'll double check for you though
FredTransit Posted January 9, 2010 Author Posted January 9, 2010 Craig (sheffieldcortinacentre) filled me in about em.....
trigger Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 I just done a DVLA check and my dad's P100 (J406 AOO) that he got new in 1992 is still taxed!, He sold it in 1996 for a Transit after the 1.8TD blew up after 35000 miles,.He used to tow a very heavy unbraked trailer with it everywhere which was often loaded with a ton of sand as well as over 1/2 a ton of tools in the back. It was a proper workhorse that van.
whitevanman Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 Craig (sheffieldcortinacentre) filled me in about em..... ask a monkey next time, its more inteligent
whitevanman Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 right correction time the '80 onwards P100 did have a 1.6 in SA, but I dont think it wasa pinto or a Xflow but a Mazda engine
FredTransit Posted January 9, 2010 Author Posted January 9, 2010 Craig (sheffieldcortinacentre) filled me in about em..... ask a monkey next time, its more inteligent OOO catty!
whitevanman Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 yup, I've suffered from Craigs Knowledge and advice and I've seen his handiwork/restorations in the flesh....I'll stick with my own opinion of him and his Knowledge and skills
Mr_Bo11ox Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 I am sure 1.6 litre P100's exist, low comp engine as well, utterly horrible to drive with even a tiny load in I am told!
FredTransit Posted January 9, 2010 Author Posted January 9, 2010 Well TBH I couldn't have imagined a commercial having less than a 2L till we bought the SWB mk2. She's nippy enough, just never had her loaded.
whitevanman Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 I am sure 1.6 litre P100's exist, low comp engine as well, utterly horrible to drive with even a tiny load in I am told!Euro ones are all 1.6 pinto's and a few very rare special order 2.0 pinto's from the factory, the SA ones had the mazda lump in 1.6 form
Mr_Bo11ox Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 Any pics of this maz lump in the cortina engine bay? Sounds interesting. I'm guessing its the sohc 626/929 effort.
retrogeezer Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 Seems like a good place to bung this, seen it around Crewe a few times and appears to still be a 'working' example.I did see a Mk4 Cortina type one at the lights in Hightown a few months back but the lights went green before I got a photo.
brammy777 Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 Theres a red P100 of the sierra type in my village, its had the same owner for ages now. There is 4 or 5 in Basingstoke, someone has made theirs look super smart by adding sierra alloys, bumpers and trim. Unless this was an official model?I havent seen a cortina P100 since I lived in Bexleyheath, the window cleaner had one.
Mr_Bo11ox Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 I love mine, its great. I expected it to be shit, but in actual fact its ace. Really comfy, nice to drive, good heater, ace driving position. the engine is not half as dire as I thought it was going to be. It blezzes along all day at 70 and I get 40mpg out of it.
whitevanman Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 P100 1.6 engine...not Europethough in his defense he is in Australia, where 250 ci engines are a standard fit, so doing a conversion would be an easy option :)PICTURES REMOVED DUE TOO STUPIDITY......I'll get the correct ones up later
Mr_Bo11ox Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 That '1.6' engine has six cylinders, that cant be right?***edit: And it says '4.1 litres' on the sticker on the air filter!!***
Station Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 that's what I said, they all came from SA.None of them came from South Africa, Mk4 and Mk5. :oDo those later P100's have Granada front ends, or is that Sierra?
whitevanman Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 That '1.6' engine has six cylinders, that cant be right?***edit: And it says '4.1 litres' on the sticker on the air filter!!***oops wrong pictures...IDIOT ALERT
whitevanman Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 that's what I said, they all came from SA.None of them came from South Africa, Mk4 and Mk5. :oDo those later P100's have Granada front ends, or is that Sierra? The 80 -88 Cortina shape P100 all had "MK5" front ends and trim etc, the Sierra ones had Hatchback front ends to begin with and then changed to the Saloon front ends towards the end of the production run about 90/90 seems to be the change over year
whitevanman Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 now found a snippet of info that says the mazda engine was alimited run trial I'm investigating further
whitevanman Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Yup, they stuck with the Xflow after all....I'm WRONG
whitevanman Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Today I have learned that 31 years of experience does not equate to knowing what your talking about never too old to learn new things
