KruJoe Posted January 22, 2008 Author Posted January 22, 2008 Looks like Mr. Bickle is living a double life in Thailand! Deffo a consequence of the crash and this looks like a pawn shop storage facility. But as soon as Asians get rich again, they dump their history and move on...Thats a thought, maybe you're right, I hadn't thought of that. But two things make me think otherwise:Firstly, I noticed most of the stuff was the rarest of autotat, museum material; either extremely old, rotten shells of ancient dinosaurs, or the best of the best examples of slightly more recent stuff - in better and more original condition than anything I've seen while out spotting. Just as though they'd been hand-picked by an eccentric.Secondly, I much prefer my romantic image of a lone, sparsely-bearded, dark skinned, later-middle-aged version of our beloved NB, scouring the dusty lanes of upcountry provinces in his robust Datsun(?) engined orange Landy spec-lift, with a bulging back pocket and a persuasive countenance left over from his days as a master of the urban underworld in the mid nineties. I have had a quick look back through the Oriental Offerings thread, but can't find the pic that this refers to; but is that white saloon above the 504 pick-up the same as the white saloon we were having trouble identifying before (Cresta vs Rekord etc)? Sorry Regie, it was my thread. Somewhere in the middle of the 20 pages, I haven’t clicked through to find it: my connection is particularly lazy tonight.I think you’re right CT, here it was: Are the motors still in most of them, or have they been ripped out for spares sales? Most of the original looking cars were complete as though they’d just been parked up, only the worst of the rusting carcasses have lost their motors. I didn’t poke around too much popping bonnets, though. I also managed to resist the temptation to jump behind the wheel of each one and “brmmm-brmmm†to myself. Extraordinary! You’ve certainly raised the game there. Thanks SL. I did start a new thread for this as I thought it wouldn’t be right to lump all these beauties in with the spotting thread. They are more akin to motor show photographs or museum snaps. If a little less shiny.Everyday spotting continues – today a W123 limo, a Presea, and more Ford-badged Mazda silliness. Saved for the next uptate… thats a crazy horde - love the WWF landie - lots of rare and endangered species there!is that a purple four door LC Torana next to the NSU?Yep, Holden Torana: Well brown/burgundy/maroon/purple, whatever. J@s#s! I had a bloody big hangover yesterday, whenever I was awake/not throwing up I wondered what I was missing out on forumwise... Fellow! Publica! Aargh! That Publica was a shoddy example. This one was in a tiny back room – sorry for the bad angles: It was blocked in by this: ..and these: ^ I haven’t a clue about that desert buggy thing. ^ It's past my bedtime. More later, folks!
michiel Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Forgot to mention the Familia, totally awesome! And thanks for the extra Publipics. Many virtual pints for you (none for me please, I've had enough for a while).
Electric Leyland Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Shurley you could get your free 5 pounds from Rust In Peace for this lotYou're right, this is an easy £50 Star Prize winning haul. I'll PM you KruJoe about that. Who says spotting doesn't pay! EL
MrRegieRitmo Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 There's something eerie about a warehouse or derelict building (itself not exactly warm & welcoming) full of decrepid vehicles! I think I now know what my mum means when she says she has a fear of shipwrecks. She hates that advert (is it for a beer e.g. Carlsberg or something) where the sea empties it's contents (removing the impurities) including shipwrecks pushed out onto the shore!

I am completely with your mum on the shipwrecks fear. Why are they so terrifying up close? Instabilty combined with ugliness and largeness (sounds familiar ). Fascinating though. Similar feeling to being inside a decrepid building - I think it's the fear of something very large and rusty falling on you.
mk2_craig Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 I have had a quick look back through the Oriental Offerings thread, but can't find the pic that this refers to; but is that white saloon above the 504 pick-up the same as the white saloon we were having trouble identifying before (Cresta vs Rekord etc)?99% sure that wasn't on the oriental offerings thread, it was on a thread by somebody that had visited Crete/Cyprus/Spain that sort of place, wasn't 55bloke was it?Thinking about it I think I'm confusing two different threads here but having lost all of those topics I can't prove one way or another. I think I know the one you mean, it was an old white car (50s?) sat on a driveway on a hill with some other vehicles. We tired to work out what it was & decided it was an Opel. The one I thought you meant was a car that I don't think we conclusively managed to identify, it looked like a Vauxhall Cresta, but everyone was coming up with different suggestions like Holden etc. It might have been posted by somebody who went to Malta, that kind of place. The car was also white & had been dumped like a lot of things are! This thread?http://autoshite.commlm/forum/viewtopic.ph ... c&start=75
Electric Leyland Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 This one is just bloody brilliant. But what is it? It looks like it would be obvious, but I just can't tell. To get it roadworthy but leaving the bodywork that condition would be my dream....
mouseflakes Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 Datsun Violet I believe - RatDat or SL or someone will know the model number I'm sure!
Spottedlaurel Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 It’s an early model of Datsun Violet (140J/160J as we know it, model code 710). Mash from here owns one in somewhat better condition…The arches are distinctly non-standard! They resemble the flares that were fitted to works rally examples of the following (A10) model Violet.
mouseflakes Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 RatDat or SL or someone will know the model number I'm sure!...model code 710What did I tell you?
Electric Leyland Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 Of course! it seems so obvious now. I feel like a right proper charlie. (can you tell I'm compiling Rust In Peace??) Thanks guys! Cyberpints all round.
Richard Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 The Rust in Peace section of this month's Practical Classics looks oddly familiar.
MrRegieRitmo Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 They take a while to work their way through but they all appear eventually. I think I was contacted about my pictures one June & told they would appear in the mag about October time!
Mash Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 I must have missed those last few pics last time round. That 710 is horrendous
bones96 Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 ts with the numbers are they going to be auctioned off ??????
KruJoe Posted November 23, 2012 Author Posted November 23, 2012 OMG anti-purge mega-bump! Some of the newbies might enjoy it too. From the collection is this picture - currently my desktop background: I might have some information on the current whereabouts of some of these vehicles if anyone's interested...
