Which car for you defines this decade?

A Mk2 Mondeo with duct taped bumpers and 3 non matching aftermarket wheeltrims

Absolutely. It's always Mk2s. Most of the Mk 1s must have perished. I can't remember the last time I saw a clean, solid Mk 2 Mondeo with original wheel trims. I hanker after a Purple LX with some of the foam visible from the broken bumper. Td engine of course.

The current Audi range is quite neat in terms of looks (bar the A3 Cabriolet which looks predictably dumpy).

I just wish they'd get rid of that stupid "bearded" family face and go back to having a normal grille. You can even get bodykits to update the old Audis to a new front - wish they'd do kits to do the reverse.

The radiator grilles on modern Audis remind me of the grilles on early MkI Astras

even if the picture is of a Mk2 Astra :wink::wink:

Oooops, I meant MKII Astras. Original post edited.

I've done engine & box changes & flywheel & clutch changes on mondeos to banger race them and found it OK, what's so awful about doing the clutch on a roadworthy one?

Posted

The fact that it needs done at all in this day and age for a start.I changed the clutch on my Escort and it was an absolute pig. Everything seemed to be designed to thwart you. At least one mount couldn't be removed without taking the studs out, but the studs couldn't be removed without taking the mount off. I've done clutches and gearboxes on French cars and it's a gentle afternoon's work. It's probably easier if you take the whole unit out, but why should you?

The fact that you need to remove the whole front "subframe"...easy enough if you have time and a warm place to do it, but most garages and clutch places wont touch them, and I no longer have a garage= scrapped car due to clutch failure...

What about the CityRover - it's the very definition of the word 'subprime'!

To me, all the silver Audi TDI sum up this decade. Get-out-of-my-way-Yuppie-look, always speeding, always pushing from behind... It seems everyone is buying VAG-stuff at the moment, doesnt matter if Seat or Skoda or VW or Audi, they are everywhere, almost every second car is one from this four VAG-brands and every car is a TDI. I hate this Yuppie-styling of newer Audis so much, because it leads the drivers to Yuppie-attitude as well. Typical for me.

Welcome Whoop Whoop! Thats some nice Trident action you've got going on there!

Looks like the old BEA colours as well 8)

Aw thanks! It was the most 'slightly unfashionable retro' thing I could think of.

There are still 8 of the Air China Tridents parked up in the old Guangzhou airport - they can be seen from the main express-way going north to the new airport. They look to be in fairly good condition - not used for fire practices etc. Now the entire surrounding area has been developped, I cannot see how they will ever be moved without being cut up. Shame.

I expect Meeowdchina clocked them a few times while he was out there. Next time I pass them, I will try and get a photo.

Surely the "whoop whoop pull up" is a reference to the Staines Air crash in 1972 (BEA Trident just like the one in the avatar) ?

For me, it has to be the CITYROVER in NEW LABOUR RED.
