Still seeing lots of drivers flooring the pedal on the ice and wondering why they are going sideways. Transits bombing past me on icy B roads going at least 60.

Best of the day was seeing my neighbour's A5 3.0tdi going gently sideways until he was 90 degrees to where he needed to be and a Morris Minor convertible with hood down chugged along by him without a hint of wheelspin.

Impressed with my car, here it is chilling out in my drive after a trip to Dewsbury this evening. Can't even see my Serck plates now!

Top marks to Autoshite "problem child" Vicsmith for his assistance in checking out the viability of going down a steep snow-covered hill near his place - looked a bit dicey, but he was in attendance until I'd got past it. This was either to see if I got there safely or to chuckle at me spinning towards certain death - cheers!

Have to say the roads were in a right state, the worst I've ever seen them in. Though to be fair the only people on the road were me, three taxis, an ambulance and a gritter - hell of a lot less stressful when you're not having to worry about other people piling into you. Went 20mph all the way down an unlit dual carriageway (the "mad mile") with only my sidelights on, the snow was coming down so heavily I couldn't see with dipped beam.

Anyway, the main thing is that I feel very proud of the old Charmant at the moment. It is having to do some fairly lousy journeys right now (with a slightly blowing exhaust to boot), but I'm going to make up for it in 2010 - get a few bits of paint sorted, refurbish those wheels, etc. Then it can have some nice runs out in the summer. If we get one.
